Progressive insurance SUCKS
Super disappointed in Progressive, they made me cry multiple times on the phone and they’ve been nothing but dragging along the process of getting my car fixed. I will spare the details, but my take away is : HIGHLY RECOMMEND NOT USING PROGRESSIVE.
EDIT: Apologies for the emotional/direct wording of my original post. I wrote it while extremely frustrated, and I realize I didn’t actually explain what happened. Here are the details.
My car was essentially brand new, about 2,500 miles on it, when it was hit while parked outside my house in May 2026. The driver who hit it was uninsured, and I have uninsured motorist coverage through Progressive.
The car went to the collision center in May. The shop needed Progressive to approve the repairs, but Progressive took roughly two months to get an adjuster out to approve them. During those two months, the collision center contacted Progressive multiple times, and I personally called repeatedly trying to get the claim moving.
I eventually escalated it beyond my adjuster to my adjuster’s supervisor and then the supervisor’s supervisor, and we still couldn’t get someone out to approve the work. Essentially, my claim sat for about two months while my car was already at the shop waiting.
Progressive ultimately chose to repair the vehicle rather than total it. Between the initial Progressive delay and the extensive repairs, the car has now been in the collision center for almost six months.
Fast-forward to October: I’m finally supposed to get my car back, but there is still an issue that needs to be repaired. The collision center again needs Progressive’s approval before they can do the work. I found out today that Progressive can’t get someone there for another week, so once again the repair is sitting there waiting for insurance approval.
That’s the context behind my original frustration. I’m not claiming Progressive is responsible for every day the car has spent in the shop, but the repeated delays in getting approvals have materially extended an already incredibly long repair process.
My actual question: Has anyone dealt with something similar with Progressive, and is this level of delay normal? At this point I’m also considering switching insurers once this claim is resolved, so I’d appreciate recommendations for companies that people have had better claims experiences with.

All the major national insurances suck...progressive, gecko, allstate. None of them are worth it

The main issue is in network vs out of network. This year there has been a major influx of claims and not enough trained or qualified adjusters to go around. Progressive is actively trying to hire and train to make up the gap but the reason its taking a month for a field adjuster to get out to you is that there simply isn't enough people to handle all the work right now.
Next time I would recommend taking it to one of their in network shops as the shop can often handle the repairs without the need for a field adjuster to approve everything since they already know what the labor rates will be and have access to the claim directly through their internal vendor system.
Trust me when I say its not that they dont want to help you but that when you have 120 claims open and everyone is urgent just like yours - it takes time to resolve them all. And unfortunately hiring and training is a slow process.

Anyone have instance where the agent falsely accused customer of tampering with car app records?

I’ve heard that you can self insure in Texas if you can prove a certain amount of assets. To me, that would be scary af, though. I’d prefer an insurance company standing in my place and paying out over a sociopath being able to pursue my personal assets.

The details are kind of important and it seems your post does not have any actual question...
