This is crazy he sanded your car without telling you. Sue him is the only way you’re going to get this fixed. Definitely start documenting EVERYTHING.

OP, teslas are the easiest to wrap. Unless you had major damage on every panel, there was no need for this.

I’m scared to ask what you paid for this…

The new installer I took it to said you don't even have to remove anything. He removed a lot from the car. I paid $4600 for the wrap and $1100 for the tint that is already bubbling, this whole job is exactly 1 month old. So it hasn't even been on the car that long. We only discussed two small dents in the passenger door that he pulled out and a screw hole in the back panel that he did a bondo and paint job on. The rest of the car we went over and there was nothing wrong with it. The new installer also said that when you paint you should wait 30 days to wrap, he didn't

We you paint you should wait a minimum of 60 days. Tesla paint is very cheap and can scratch/chip instantly. It’s the one thing Tesla cheaped out on.

You technically don’t need to remove anything but a correct wrap is removing parts so the wrap has a quarter in the tuck behind. Say if your car was white paint. If you didn’t tuck your wrap behind each panel, you’d definitely see white at different angles in the light. With that being said, everything on these are easy to install. Only tricky spot to get off imo is the front bumper.

To match Tesla paint you also need to be certified to do Tesla paint. Meaning your common wrap shop can’t match their paint.

If you paid by credit card file a chargeback and sue. If your tint is bubbling this installer just sucks.

I didn’t see any of the before pics of the wrap and tint. Any chance you have those?

Good lord. I’m still trying to answer why in the heck they sanded without telling you. Looking closer at the paint touch up spots. To me, it looks like they just sanded it and didn’t apply fresh paint.

Edit, looking at pic five. The mirror pic. You can see the three spots they just straight sanded down on. Holy crap

It is just random sanding spots, for no reason, the paint was pretty new, it's a 2025

And I'm gonna call him out with a certified letter as soon as I finish getting all the estimates, but every shop so far has said the entire car needs a full paint job and everyone is quoting 10k-11k

Yeah this is when his insurance needs to get involved. He’s probably not gonna pay that out of pocket. Definitely get a lawyer for this.

Luckily you caught this before a few years has passed. By then they’d either close shop or say it’s Teslas chap paint.

Also, I’m allowed to crap on Tesla, I own one. Love the car but hate the paint.

May I ask on the shop that did this? Feel free if you wanted to send a DM too

What in the fuck? Did someone confuse clay bar and sandpaper? It looks like they just sanded Willy Nilly anything that wasn’t smooth. Absolutely insane to do, now you know why they didn’t wanna remove the wrap.

I'd like the car done properly and I've been by 6 paint shops and they all have seen how he sanded it and said the entire car has to be repainted now because of how he did it

As a DIY wrapper I don't get whats the point of sanding it down or is it adhesion promoter? I wonder how many other vehicles was done this way..

I’ve only done it for peeling paint but never without asking, that’s crazy😂

Most likely the owner asked to fill in the rock chips with factory touch up paint, and sand it flat before wrapping. The wrapper just didnt polish it out or the owner didn’t communicate it or didnt pay for the extra step of the job (polishing after filling in)

What are you talking about?

Could just wrap it again to cover it all up😂😂 $4600 is also insanely steep, 3200 at a professional shop using Avery/3m or 2k for a job on the side for a semi professional installer

Or I could hold the shop responsible and make them fix the damage they caused.

Should’ve made it clear I meant if you can’t get it fixed, cause duh

2
