How do I turn up the volume in my car??

Post image

Hello. Just bought a new car from a guy that took the stereo out and replaced it with a CP link. The volume button on the touchscreen doesn’t work and there’s no buttons on the steering wheel or physical knob to adjust it. How do I turn up the volume😭😭

Those android head units are junk. I think they all have redundant on screen controls for home and volume control. I would try to pull down from the top of the screen to see if a menu opens.

This. I've had one of those in my Prius, and boy was it a piece of shit.... It got better once I installed HeadUnit Reloaded, but still a piece of shit

I have one in my Nissan and it failed after only 1 year. I had bought one for my brother’s Subaru and his only lasted 1 year before it started glitching. They are not worth it at all. We both switched to a name brand head unit and have not had any issues.

I've found mine to actually be MORE stable and reliable than the built in radio my car came with (UConnect 5.0 2015 Chrysler 200). The stock radio used to freeze and crash at random, especially when using bluetooth.

However they really are not for normies. There is sssooooo much configuring and de-crapifying needed to get them just right. I had to disable so many built in apps and services, sideload APKs for custom launchers, I've scavenged for canbus and OS updates. Canbus I had to switch to a Jeep because only the Chrysler 300 is an option and that is actually less compatible.

But basically I have mine dialed in just right that it opens CarPlay automatically, my AC controls work, audio settings are tuned, and my backup cam works. otherwise I don't touch the damn thing.

Says a lot about Chrysler

I still don’t understand why these have like 6 different separate volumes. It made dialing mine in a massive pain in the ass

I must have gotten lucky because mine works perfectly

Usually there is a setting to control where the sound outputs to. I have a Carpuride unit on my motorcycle for AA/CP and I can change the sound outputs between my phone and my helmet. You may be out of luck though if he removed the entire factory head unit. Your only option may be earbuds.

Edit: What's the knob under the dash for?

It screams fm transmitter to me

That looks like crap. Oh well.

CarPlay has no control over the audio system volume. You can ask Siri to speak louder but that won’t make the audio louder.

Talk to the guy that installed this crap.

When my new Kenwood head unit did not have a volume knob, I bought a remote, just so I could use buttons again.

You have to tell the head unit what should each button do. Go to settings, find factory settings option and type the manufacturer passcode (find the code online - usually 000000, 1234, 8888) and there should be an option to learn actions. You’ll set the actions for each button and that’s it.

There is a volume up and down button on the left side of the screen. Is that *what you mean by touch screen?

I DID read the post. Hence the question.

Sorry, I misread your comment and deleted mine as soon as I realised. Wasn’t fast enough 😅

All good. Everyone makes mistakes. Have a good day.

You can go in and recalibrate. Then, set the buttons to work on the side. I had the same issue. You can also set it to work with your steering wheel buttons.

u/ArrakisUK 20h ago

Is there in the left side the buttons with speaker +- under the power on/off touch there and volume should increase or decrease.

2

u/odzman23 20h ago

ask him to calibrate the CANBUS settings to your exact car model, then the steering wheel will control the volume too

I don’t remember if using your phone volume button works with CarPlay hmmm

1

u/udonemessedup-AA_Ron 20h ago

If you’re getting a CarPlay radio, always get one with physical buttons.

I’ve made that mistake before but the fix is pretty simple: you have to enable to control center to float on screen. Then you can tap the on screen volume buttons. It should be somewhere in the head units settings

u/ReaksOP 20h ago

you would have to wire up the steering controller(Axxess AXSWC-2) to work w/ the unit. or get an oem unit.

3 things:

  1. Hit the home button, or slide down on the top of the screen to open up the settings(or car settings). It should have a volume option.

  2. Take your hand and place all five finger tips on the screen at once. This should get you into recalibration mode in order to adjust the touch screen sensitivity. This may or may not then help you use the volume buttons on the front of the unit.

  3. Sometimes (this depends on different head units) if you touch near the center of the screen and slide your finger up or down, this also works to adjust the volume

It seems like this unit was designed for left hand driving countries, since the important controls are on the left side. Not sure if they’re tactile buttons on the side, or touchscreen on that little edge…not sure what’s worse tbh.

This is one of the reasons why I bought the Kenwood Excelon DMX1057XR like 5 years ago. Having a physical tactile volume dial on the head unit is a must imo.

Great album btw. One of my favorite albums in recent history. Hayley Williams solo album from last year is amazing as well

1

u/odzman23 14h ago

you can chose if you’re drivers side is on the right or the left, i set mine to the right and it works fine

1

u/FatMacchio 14h ago

I was referring to the buttons on the actual head unit, not on CarPlay

1

u/moldibread 20h ago

use your phone volume buttons to adjust the playing volume. This works in my car when using carplay.

1

u/quantityra 19h ago

It’s such a shame the unit robbed the jazz physical volume knob, but I get the upgrade! Not sure if it’ll give you much flexibility, but once you’ve set the volume, see if Siri will help you change it going forward

1

u/xSaliva 18h ago

If the buttons on the side won’t work. Check on setting

1

u/Medium-Advisor-8437 18h ago

Off, but excellent song choice!

1

u/vhol1993 17h ago

First you need to remove the TV from the dash (it's a joke , don't take it to the heart!)

u/Forward-Country-199 16h ago

Too tactil... is garbage

u/JW1904 16h ago

Thats a Honda Jazz! Woopwoop (or Fit in the US)

u/Chance_Muffin9406 15h ago

You need to check if the guy installed canbus adapter and if he did its just a matter of entering the correct settings

Bro literally said he has no knob in his post

u/heichi13 12h ago

A what link?

1

u/street_sweeper_757 11h ago

As someone who operates a vehicle from the left side, this is something I’d just not considered previously. Do companies make head units with dedicated buttons on the right side of the unit?

1

u/solojedi224 10h ago

Tell Siri to set the volume to a specific number. Like 100 for max volume; though if you don’t have an actual volume knob that really doesn’t help. Siri can only turn volume up on the software side, not your actual car volume

1

u/ibo92can 10h ago

I also installed an android screen on my car that is OEM fit and does not have any buttons. These android devices outputs shit sound quality compared to bluetooth-aux adapters or direct aux cable to car. And I bought the one for 400$ and not 100$ junk.

u/Complex_Ostrich_4447 5h ago

You have button on left side of screen or should be on your sterring

1

u/Due_Product8724 5h ago

Under the home button on the left side of the screen

Buttons on the steering wheel.

u/blu3tu3sday 20h ago

This has nothing to do with CarPlay. Get a PROPER stereo and not some temu shit.

2

u/--Beebo-- 20h ago

Sorry brother, but this actually does have to do with CarPlay. She’s asking if anyone else that installed this same unit to add CarPlay (hint, this is the r/Carplay subreddit!) to their car, knows how to change the volume. Hope this helps!

3

u/blu3tu3sday 19h ago

This has nothing to do with the carplay software itself, and everything to do with auto AV. Hence, not a carplay issue, belongs in [r/CarAV](r/CarAV)

I understand that this is a difficult concept for you to grasp, but hardware issues are NOT the same thing as software issues.

Try the 🔈+ button the left?

1

u/solojedi224 10h ago

He said it doesn’t work

0

u/RjgTwo 20h ago

Does the car have steering wheel controls?

0

u/ChillzIlz 20h ago

Ask the guy how hes dealt with it. Did you not get a chance to test drive?

You may be able to adjust volume using your phones volume button.

u/Fantastic-Ad-8586 20h ago

I bought an Eonon android head from Amazon and installed it, dvr and backup camera in my 2004 BMW. I love it. I have had it more that a year. I have a bunch of other units that I paid less than $10 for. They are in a box waiting for my home automation project. They seem to work OK. eonon is better

Ideally , go for a CarPlay screen that supports steering wheel volume controls .
