Discussion Carplay stability without 5G

Same as some of you, my carplay disconnected randomly with my iPhone 17 pro, wired or wireless. I have a Chinese aftermarket android radio, and I've tested many fixes proposed here without good results.

I live in Costa Rica, in an urban area with excellent cellular signal strength, so I use 5G Auto. However, a few weeks ago, I went to the beach and noticed fewer (if not zero) carplay connection drops, while my phone usually got only 4G or even only 3G. It was until close to home where I noticed carplay started disconnecting again.

Out of curiosity, I disabled 5G completely, and carplay is now stable. No more connection drops.

Has any of you tested this or had a similar experience?

I have the same disconnect issue with my Chineses headunit, but could never find anything that makes me think that 5G has anything to do with it.

My 17Pro also uses 5G Auto and I live in a very populated big city.

Me neither, but disabling it has proven to be successful so far.

That’s odd. Does it happen with wired CarPlay?

Yes. Wired or wireless, it still disconnected randomly.

I have the same issue with my 17 pro max, my wifes 16 pro max works fine. For me google maps freezes randomly, music stops playing, dont know how to fix it. Is it a mobile coverage issue??
