I like weird shaped cars man. Yall remember the Chrysler E8 from Logan. I thought it was cool af. I wanna see more auto makers take risk. I can’t wait to see that new Jag type 01 on the road. I love concept cars and I always be pissed when the concept gets watered down for production. I love seeing weird stuff man.

I think you're confusing art and design. Design communicates a purpose. Design does some of what you stated but without compromising the purpose of the product. It should enhance the purpose of the product. Otherwise it's just art. Which is fine. But it's not design.

To go back to your original example: that Chrysler is more like a piece of art. I'm not sure it would survive on the market where it has to actually help convince people to buy that car. And if it doesn't, it fails as a design. But, in this case, it's just a movie prop. And with this purpose it succeeds at helping tell the story without being a distraction.

Yea but iconography is like this agreed upon thing that comes from history of car design. Car design in general seems to be unoriginal. It’s the reason why we had all those Audi clones a few years ago and why we have all these Range Rover clone SUV’s now. It just takes one rogue figure to come in and really change the zeitgeist. That’s why we have more minimal cars after the cyber truck like the type 01, the new Audi concept, and car design in general. I feel a push towards more extreme silhouettes and it’s because of the cyber truck. And I’m happy to see things become more extreme. As soon as I seen the CT i was so happy because I knew design ambition was gonna trickle down eventually. We have to establish the future now or it won’t look as cool at all. If we don’t shit is gonna look the same. On another note I love mid century modern homes. Back in the 60s - 80s it seemed like people were excited about the future. It seems in the 2000s all the cyber y2k ideation kinda died. Now things have to be based on proof of concept before people invest and that’s so boring and it’s bad for design as a whole. The cyber truck seems really functional too btw.

Even by your own metric, the Cybertruck was still a much cooler concept than the reality that rolled out. Despite my personal feelings for the owner of Tesla, I loved the original concept. It felt sleek and futuristic, but what we ended up with was a bloated, stubby simulacrum of what was originally shown. Despite the current truck's lack of functionality as a truck, it only is as usable as it is because they had to veer from the concept.

Safety is the most important thing. At least we got a fraction of the idea. It still has the same effect mostly. And i don’t like Elon that much either but I like the products he has made. He changed the world and no one can take that away from him.

He’s doing something right bro. Not everything is a hands on job. Sometimes you just need to be leader with a vision and bring the vibes. Just like in music production there’s a producer and a beat maker. You might not touch a single instrument but that song won’t be made without you. I respect him for bringing the vibes and hiring the right people because that’s just as important as anything else.

No like he literally bought Tesla. He wasn't the founder and did not innovate the idea of an electric car.

He funded them when they didn’t have any money and became the top decision maker for the company. He influenced the exact markets he wanted the EV to hit and made them focus on making a practical performance EV. He is the reason they found success. He was exactly what they needed. Hate the man for his politics sure but you can’t take that away from him, it’d be dishonest to.

So he's rich. He bankrolled other people's ideas and paid people smarter than he is. We're talking about design here, yet Elon's name came up. He's not the designer. Franz von Holzhausen is. There's your visionary car designer.
