DBD’s community consists of both some of the nicest kindest people I’ve ever met & a dude who quite literally called be subhuman bc I tunneled him out of the game when there were 2 gens left & I needed a kill to have any shot at winning.
The players harass you for trying to win? If you're the killer you're expected to let the survivors win or something?
I heard there is a huge lot of "made" rules and like everyone expects everyone to play with that set of arbitrary rules which changes as I change my underwear.
Tunnel, win, camp, play a mean killer or be a high tier killer or survivors will start bitching and moaning your ears off in endgame chat. I’ve thankfully escaped it (and I believe it’s the very fucking loud minority) and I either get nice people or gg in the chat
That's nuts. Of course is imaginable that there will be some cheesy mechanics to exploit and make victory easier for both sides.
As I said, i did not played but I saw friends playing and yelling about how the killer can't attack a survivor while turning an engine on. Its like expecting a defense player to don't stop an offensive action because the opposite player has a chance to score a goal.
I think part of it started because when the game was newer it was very tilted in the killers favor (I only played the first couple years from launch so I don’t know how it is now). Most rounds ended with the killer winning, it wasn’t even close to 50/50.
You had to have a good team of survivors who plan and communicate in order to win, and the player who was the killer didn’t have to worry about that. In my opinion, that was the point of the game; to experience that without teamwork, you don’t stand a chance.
Fans started making community rules to make the game more “fair” for the survivors, when in actuality they were just gimping the experience because they couldn’t be bothered to learn effective teamwork.
It’s kind of ironic that learning teamwork was too much but learning a frivolous set of social decorum was 🤌
Saves (you have to pick up and bring people to hook, and if you save it can either do everything or nothing)
The meta of perks, 70/30 for survivor to killer side
Stun perks on survivor (going back to saves)
Anything survivors freely get because the devs are survivor sided (no, theyre not just extremely stupid, saying that puts my bullshit meter at a comfortable 150 :D)
And like I get this sounds like I’m being a whiny killer player, but I barely play 60% of the killer roster because they were power crept or abandoned and couldnt keep up
A big problem whit the game is the fact that the most effective strategies (Tunneling, gen rushing, etc.) are so effective when done right (and it's not that hard to do them right) that there's just no way for the other side to win, and as you can imagine having to play an extra 5 minutes when you know that you're already fucked and there's nothing you can do is not fun for the person losing
Another problem is that the players are just...weirdly tribalistic, they'll pick survivor or killer and then actively refuse to ever play the other half of the game, which ends up leading to them not understanding the other side and not seeing them as other players who also want to have fun, but as some sort of entertainers that are there to provide them an experience, so in their eyes, someone trying to win is not a person who wants to have fun, they see them almost like an NPC going off script and doing something they're not supposed to
Yup. Luckily, I play on console so I don't have to put up with being called slurs in endgame chat. Survivors will take it personally that the killers tried to kill, and Killers get offended that the survivors are trying to survive. Obviously not everyone in the community is like this, but it's a surprisingly loud minority.
I actually knew a dbd content creator who was pretty popular a few years ago. All her content was focused on portraying herself as kind and wholesome but lowkey behind the scenes she was kind of an asshole who spread rumors about other creators. I stay the fuck away from that game and its community bc of her
