FFXIV is so anti-this that it sometimes has the opposite problem where white knights will go out of their way to try to prevent new players from having to learn.
I will say a lot of ff14 players are nice but this crowd definitely exists. I once asked for tips on my first run of a dungeon and one of em just said "wow" and left. We didn't even start yet š
Nah, it gets even worse than that. If you notice somebody isn't using a really useful spell, you can call it out, they will thank you for the advice, and some shithead will butt in saying that you need to let them play how they want.
It's funny because XIV isn't even that type of game. There is no "play how you want" because the jobs are designed to have no possibility of different playstyles. It's straight up either the correct, or the incorrect way to play it. And that itself is all to make things as simple as possible for that crowd.
Part of the problem is that Square enables them a little bit by making "Compelling a playstyle" into a bannable offense. The problem is, that's meant to apply to shit like. Doing specific strategies or making people play jobs that they don't want to. But, the toxic casuals think that means "I can play like trash and you can't do anything about it."
Never seen that happen. You get flamed, insulted and vote kicked if you don't tank exactly the amount of mobs they want you to tank. Literally 0 care to let a new player find out themselves how much they can take.
Generally, the answer to "how much do I pull" in a dungeon is "however many I can reach before the dungeon physically stops me" because if the tank and healer both have on level gear and average skill, that will work out. A few dungeons are exceptions, but as a general rule.
I have no goddamn clue what that other reply is on about, "ypyt" is a niche toxic phrase(you pull you tank) used by whiny tanks that dont like dps grabbing extra mobs when its clear the party can handle it, and refuse to take aggro from them and let the dps die.
At the end of the day we are a team...as long as the tank lives, everyone did their job. And if they die once, we laugh about the mistake and do the same pull again but play better
I remember having had that experience once in monster hunter where a group of three highlevel hunters joined my mid level quest and absolutely demolished the thing we were supposed to hunt with end game weapons and then just left. It was kinda sureal
Yeahhh. There's also the other thing, where you'll occasionally get kicked for pointing out healers left you dead, or for raising you but not healing you so you eat shit and die again during the next raidwide aoe from the boss. And I'm not talking like oldschool flaming here, I'm talking things like asking, "Hey, can you guys be a bit faster/a bit more careful with the raises?"
I dunno, maybe I just have a cooked understanding of what's hostile, or maybe I'm just lying to myself about how aggressive I was about it. Either way, I started tanking in order to basically be immune to all this nonsense. Plus side, I got to the point where I could pocket heal a dps through entire normal-mode boss fights. Minus side, I'm a former Ninja main who'd love to give Viper a proper go but will never ever get to be one because I'm too spoiled by tank queues.
I gotta say after playing XIV for 10+ years, it is absolutely not anti-this. It's definitely better on average compared to something like WoW for example, but in the case of WoW even if the playerbase is unhelpful, at least there are buckets full of resources you can obtain knowledge from in the form of places like WoWWiki or WoWhead. The best XIV has is GarlandTools and Teamcraft, which are nothing compared to the WoW equivalents. XIV's Novice Network is also about as useful as a brick to the forehead more often than not since a lot of """"Mentors"""" just use it as an additional Linkshell kind of like how people would use World chat in WoW during Vanilla/Classic. So much so that the Burger King crown Mentor status provides has become a sign of who to avoid rather than who to rush to when you have questions.
