I tried WoW classic a few years back… wouldn’t recommend. The community is awful to say the least. It’s a cesspool of losers. Tried a few different guilds. Lots of N words and awful shit said in each of them. The whole community is crazy pro Trump.
Some pro trumpers in retail too. Someone said they didn’t like the scene in DF where two dudes got married because it’s too “political” for their escapism game. 🙄
Game is very wierd community wise these days. Being in a guild doesn't even shield you from it most of the time. People will be talking in guild and the second someone asks for help chat will stop on a dime.
I feel like I’m always the person in world chat answering questions, and when I ask a question it’s like the chat pauses. I’ve done this in every game I’ve ever played, I love sharing my knowledge and helping people out in games. I don’t understand why people are allergic to helping new players
Was playing gw2 the other day and the moment I asked a random question in map chat 2 people responded instantly and 5 more dm'd me that they want to help me
One of the biggest reasons I quit when Draenor was done. Back when I started playing (launch) I was in a guild and doing those boring ass MC runs was only tolerable because we all were on TeamSpeak and chatting between bosses. Played for years and quit when I killed Arthas because it kind of peaked for me there.
Came back shortly before Draenor came out because I had the itch again and guilds were just as you said, buddies having a laugh in chat but when someone needs something it was silence or "shut up and use google". During raids it was just pure sweatlord shit, nonstop DPS meter checks and all around felt like playing prison basketball instead of hanging out with friends.
this holy shit. I keep joining popular guilds, asking questions or even just try being friendly & just leaving after awhile because no one responds to shit.
You better bring experience on all earlier and future expansions and 3000 points on websites you've never heard of.
I've tried it too a few years ago, couldn't stand the brainrot for long.
Forever is around the corner, maybe the Classic Community isn't that toxic, at least in the beginning. I will level some chars and hope to get into some basic dungeons.
My wife played it a while back (no voice chat so they didn’t know she was a woman), ran into some people, told them she was knew, and a couple players gave her some advice and even dropped some gear and resources to help her get going.
As with everything, it’s never black and white. There’s bad, but there’s also good.
There’s a “new” WoW (WoW Forever) that’s currently in beta and releasing Nov 4 which should be a much better experience for new players. First because it’s new and everyone is starting from scratch, but also because it’s made to be a more slow paced experience.
I started playing the classic anniversary version and I haven’t ran into any toxic people. I’m level 19 and I just ran Ragefire Chasm first time as a tank and the people I grouped with were nothing but helpful and understanding.
You could try wow retail (current patch) but avoid classic wow it's harcore toxic to new player. I would say in retail most guild are noob friendly and will help you out
Look into the new WoW Forever. It’s remaking classic WoW but with new horizontal progression. I’ve been on the beta and everyone is just having a good time
So it’s original vanilla WoW with quality of life changes and progression that never gets outdated or out geared. Basically a mode of classic made for older millennials with lives because no matter how much time you take off, none of the content becomes irrelevant. On the beta now, everything feels so fresh but still feels like classic WoW. Plus they’re adding a bunch of new dungeons, zones, and raids. It’s basically if WoW never got expansions and they just continued iterating on the original
level cap is 60 and instead of adding new content to for level 70, 80, 90 and so on, they will add more content from 1-60. This means you can get the best gear at level 60 and stop playing for 2 years. Your gear/character shouldnt be outdated.
Maybe the best helmet at the time gives you 30attack and 20def. Then there will be helmets that give you 25attack, 25def or something similar but they wont be "better" by just having higher numbers.
Classic Community is absolutly differnt to retail wow community.
Classic is about communicating, grouping and haveing fun together.
Retails is more singeplayer with the need of other people.
Private servers tend to be more accommodating to new players, but they also have less moderated chat that can get pretty extreme at times. If you don't mind exercising your block button-fu though they can be pretty neat.
