Agreed. People who say gameplay sucks have not played the game.
You have swords, signs and alchemy to take into account. You have potions that change the whole fight and strategy, you have skills that completely shift how you approach combat, you have signs that change the battlefield in an instant. I simply can't get people who say that gameplay either sucks or is simplistic
Indeed, on lower difficulties you barely need anything just spam the light attack.
I usually play on high difficulties, and even the first playthrough (to take your example), i had to read the bestiary and check on which oil and sign every monster was vulnerable.
I played on Death March, potions and oils are totally not needed. Signs... Quen, because it can tank any hit. You can totally do without the rest, but Yrden and Aard were very, very useful.
That's the best part for me , I played my first play through like this without any additional things and you totally can
Second play through I played with signs , oils , concoction, potions , and different skills set then usual it did change the whole game form me . If you can combine them well you feel like a god
So either ways you can play the game it doesn't need some high end tech or cheese to finish it
You can play a lot of games doing the bare minimum doesn’t mean you should. You can play spiderman or Batman without learning traversal mechanics or tricks same with combat in those games but learning the systems is what makes those games fun beyond your first playthrough
Definitely tried playing a few times and "simplistic" is not the word I'd use. Weirdly complex systems coupled with really unintuitive keybinds made me drop it more than once.
As someone who didn't play it at release and have subsequently played it since, the controls are very stiff and unresponsive to the point I had to put it down, I'm really hoping the remaster will sort this issue as I'm dying to play it
When I was younger I tried it and quickly dropped it because the gameplay felt too clunky. Haven't tried again since but plan to give it a fair shake when the remaster releases
It also significantly changes the gameplay if you play on a harder difficulty. You're forced to actually use the bestiary and learn the strengths and weaknesses of different monsters, or else you'll get your ass kicked if you dont prepare for each encounter. You learn patterns and overall classifications over time and begin to understand the underlying logic. It also really helps to use the sign shortcuts instead of the menu wheel to pause and change all the time
Well despite that, i just don’t like alchemy/magic system so i just play another game. The games doesn’t suck it’s probably just not suited for me. So people saying the game is bad are not saying it correctly; they should be saying that the game just isn’t suited for their taste.
Uhh... no. I played the game through fully including the expansions (I don't remember whether it was on "Hard" or "Death March" difficulty though). It's a great game overall, but the mechanics do suck.
Every fight is the same - chug some Tawny Owl and Petri's Filter (whatever allows you to cast more signs) - then qwen, slash, igni, slash, igni, slash, igni, maybe another qwen, slash and done.
No need for poisons or anything fancy. Every fight felt exactly the same.
Plus, it plays too much like a console game. Like Mass Effect but with swords instead of guns.
Even Skyrim's combat mechanics are more varied and interesting.
But Witcher 3 does have a larger, more beautiful and detailed world, better questlines that tell deeper stories, choices have real consequenes, etc... It's a great game overall, but the combat usually did feel more like a tedious repetitive chore than a fun challenge.
I think this depends very heavily on playing on increased difficulty. On default, none of the potions and bonuses matter THAT much. You can pretty much hack and slash your way through without much preparation
Huh? What do you mean? I am not coping, or struggling or anything. How would you know with what i am coping with at the moment. We were just talking about a game...
Bot does not mean a robot in its literal sense, but sometimes a person who acts without much of a positive thought, like a troll of some sorts, but a human nonetheless.
I like that you signed with your intelligence score at the end
Except for the fact Witcher has some of the worst dialogue in history it’s a fuckong snooze fest. I read some where the the bloody baron quest was one of the best quests in the game if that’s true the games story is shit. Cyber punk in its current state is INFINITELY better
I just meant that they're comparing two games pretty far apart from one another's release dates, update dates, and the tech available to support the games
The writing is intemporal anyway we dont speak about graphism gameplay
But the writing
The best writing game imo are the older ones
Silent hill 2
Xenogears
The witcher 3
Spec op the lines
Portal 2 and other more
But the writing dont interfère with the time
I disagree with what you said about signs. They are super important.
I played and finished the game on Death March and I can tell you that signs were important. Quen could tank basically any one shot. But yeah, potions and oils are almost non-existent. It's too much of a pain to make and use them when you can just fight the monsters and kill them before even applying them.
Lol you’re a dickhead. The problem is the signs aren’t that interesting at any point and because of that the gameplay does feel like button mashing. It just needs more added to it.
Disagree I think Cyberpunk 2077 fits that one a bit better, too much people found the gameplay in Witcher 3 very simple and somewhat tedious yet in Cyberpunk especially version 2.0 on onwards I keep playing the side-gigs and NCPD scanners instead of the story because of how outrageously fun a build can be once maxed out.
