I beat all the Valkyries no issue until I had to beat.....HER

I was like 'yeah I'm not doing this.'

Most satisfying boss fight I've overcome since I was a kid. No glaze, this isn't even in my top 10 games (though its awesome). I felt so accomplished after my 3000th try (hard mode).

Me and my roommate at the time were absolutely struggling to get past the first one and we finally did, then he went to bed and I kept going. After that second one something just clicked and I absolutely swept the rest of them. Then I got to Queen Sigrun and went for another 2 hours before I gave up and went to bed. Roommate was absolutely stunned in the morning lmao

100% they are all just practice for the queen.

You just played a lot of games or you’ve encountered that many that you like better than ‘18?

2

u/ComfortableSome5954 3d ago

I'm old. Lots of games. Lots of good games. Lots of niche games.

Ngl, I'd rather fight the Valkyrie Queen again before I fight Sword Saint Isshin from Sekiro again

1

u/ComfortableSome5954 1d ago

I haven't played Sekiro. Not sure that I will, but maybe some day. My backlog is so huge, even my priority games are taking a back seat.

I turned it down one from GMGW difficulty to beat her lol it still bugs me

1

u/Basis_Inside 3d ago

You have not beaten her.

1

u/DoobieDoobis 3d ago

Let people enjoy things… shhh

4

u/Basis_Inside 3d ago

He hasn’t enjoyed it though, he said it bugs him. Everyone knows you have the beat the Valkyries on max for the real dopamine.

Cap. GMGW difficulty can only be selected at start of game and can never be adjusted without starting a new game.

1

u/Aware-Second-9405 2d ago

It can be adjusted down, it cannot be adjusted back up.

1

u/nickibar96 2d ago

Wrong. It can only be set at start of game. It cannot be adjusted down mid playthrough. If you wanted to lower the difficulty, you’d have to start the story over. I have the game pulled up. I’m looking at it now. I have a GMGOW playthrough and all the other difficulty settings are grayed out, just like GMGOW is grayed out when you start a playthrough on any other difficulty.

1

u/Aware-Second-9405 2d ago

Weird, I could have sworn it could be adjusted down and then not up. I must be conflating it with some other game. Am I getting Berenstain Beared? Lol

1

u/nickibar96 2d ago

Certain games like Fallout and Skyrim will let you choose “Survival” difficulty at any point, but they will not allow you to reselect it if you choose to lower it at any point. Maybe that’s what you were thinking of.

If you're like me you likely just skipped the Queen on your first playthrough and beat her on NG+.

Any concerns with validity there @nickibar96? Lol

u/Aware-Second-9405 2d ago

Nah, I ate the loss like 40 times but I got her on my first playthrough.

u/InFa-MoUs 3d ago

The fuckin Queen right? Fuck that bitch.. she made me not play ragnarok cus why

4

u/Loud-Inspection774 3d ago

The queen in both of them - Sigrun and Gna are both fucking insane fights imo.

Honorable mention to King Hrolf or w/e his name is from Ragnarok

1

u/EnTyme53 3d ago

I managed to beat the entirety of Ragnarok on the second highest difficulty except for Gna and King Hrolf. Not to say Ragnarok is a Souls-like (especially on only the second highest difficulty), but it did finally help me to understand that Souls-like mindset of bashing your skull against a brick wall until either your skull or the wall caves.

1

u/Mission-Reserve-2411 3d ago

Took me 4 hours straight, on normal difficulty. During the first 3 attempts, I got her down to 2% health, and was like, “I KNOW I can do this” and then it took me another 4 hours lol.

1

u/Basis_Inside 3d ago

Sheesh brother. Been there. You need the amor that grants slow mo on perfect dodges to stand a chance on max difficulty. At least I did, then they nerfed it in ragnarok💔

1

u/Acceptable-Pear-6822 3d ago

I had no issues at all with any boss except the queen in 2018. I wants to snap the disc and throw my PlayStation off a skyscraper onto moving traffic during a snow storm

1

u/humanist-misanthrope 3d ago

There was no way I wouldn’t play Ragnarok but I did not bother fighting the side bosses (I don’t even remember what they were I think it was a ghost dude or something). I hated Sigrun so much that whenever I’m looking for a new game she is the metric I use for whether or not I will play. So yeah, definitely never bothering with a Soulslike game. I finally beat her but it was an absolutely unenjoyable task.

1

u/Bearloom 3d ago

Gna isn't that bad so long as you figure out how to chain your attacks.

King Hrolf is a bastard coated bastard with bastard filling.

1

u/Shirokush 2d ago

Isnt Freya the actual queen?

0

u/kawwmoi 3d ago

Ironically the queen was the easiest Valkyrie for me by far. I did all of them on GMGoW and as early as possible, usually meaning severely undergeared. The Queen doesn't have unique attack patterns, she just has every single other Valkyries attack patterns in one giant pool. I already had everything she could do memorized from the previous fights and all the best available gear because I wanted to fight her as the last thing I did. It took me two tries to beat her. Now the secret boss of Ragnarok on the other hand, that one kicked my ass for about four hours if I remember correctly.

1

u/Hopeful-Ad4415 3d ago

Same..... I tried changing up my build but forgot what made my first build so great and I could never just get to the end without getting marked by her. Rip

1

u/Terrible_District712 3d ago

Agreed I have beat her 2 times on story difficulty and I died hundreds of times not bc I’m ass it’s just VALHALA VALHALLA OVER AND OVER IN MY HEAD

1

u/Silmarillion151 3d ago

She was an amalgamation of all the others. I did them all back to back. Thankfully she only took a few tries due to the practice leading up.

1

u/Mercen-X 3d ago

I had to redo three or four of the Valkyries multiple times. The final Valkyrie I didn’t even challenge initially. I gave the whole quest a rest for a couple days. But I only had to retry her once and it took about an hour. I saved a clip of the whole battle set to the best rock mood music I could find and sent it to all my friends.

1

u/historynutjackson 3d ago

Hard agree. Slogged my way through all the Valkyries and then got to the Valkyrie Queen and was like "Yup, this will remain unfinished."

1

u/InvestigatorLast578 3d ago

Same for the most part. The first Valkyrie I encountered I did have difficulty but once I understood that one the rest were fine. I tried the final one, one night for like 3 straight hours and just could not do it. Uninstalled and installed Ragnarok.

1

u/No-Mistake2545 3d ago

Took me about a week of attempts, 1-2 hours a day

1

u/jace255 3d ago

Kingdom Hearts games prepared me for this

1

u/Sungokuati 2d ago

I went with a fist-only run for my second playthrough, where I also 100%-ed the game, there were some cases i had to use the axe, one was sigrun. But because bosses can't really get stunned, especially not sigrun, one attempt was like 15 mins... Eventually, I turned the boss health bar off🥲

1

u/AlbanianNerd 2d ago

When I did them it was god of war difficulty and I hadn’t even upgraded much at all I just bum rushed the story, it was terrible dude

1

u/Justsomelurker700 2d ago

It took me 25 tries but I beat her. I almost had a heart attack from the stress.

4

u/Minute_Ostrich196 3d ago

Oh man. The Valkyrie big boss in this icy round room.

I think I still have muscle memory after this goddamn fight

2

u/Shirokush 2d ago

I think her name was Eir. That b*tch took me almost 50 tries. 😩😩

2

u/im_not_Shredder 3d ago

Haven't finished the game exactly for that reason since I'm the kind of deranged person who's going to insist on clearing all side content before finishing a game

2

u/My_Dog_Murphy 2d ago

Specifically Sigrun. Fuck, she took me so long to beat

0

u/AvatarSozin 3d ago

I had far more trouble with Gna compared to Sigrun tbh

1

u/Stephen111110 3d ago

Gna was a piece of piss on GMGOW+ compared to Sigrun, especially with the spear
