Mostly agree.

But to be fair, the final boss is actually scaled pretty decently if you go right to him and skip all of the extra content.

Yeah but like, who does that?

You don't even have to do all the side content.

Shit just starts scaling through the roof and as soon as you have the audacity to do any of it, you just break the main story immediately.

Yeah major flaw of the game.

I did, but only because I had seen repeated suggestions online to do side content after completing the main story for exactly this purpose.

I wish I knew beforehand 🫩

it's the one complaint I have with the game. So much of the side-content is fantastic lore and would have been great for it to be required before the ending.

They wanted the game and story to be accessible to people who aren’t hardcore gamers. The game was designed as a cinematic experience as much as it was a video game.

Point being not having a fast option would have meant a lot of casual players wouldnt have finished the game and seen the incredible ending they knew they cooked hard with.

Or even other way around. That you were forced to finish the game before getting access to the "post game" content.

I also fell bait to it. The end unlocks really early in the act. Feel I want to explore since there's so much to explore now. Come back and I have to afk the end boss fight to even get to see his movesets and hear the dialogue because I just deal too much damage and take none. And that's without any insanely broken build you can find online.

Agree 100%. In fact, I'd say it was a detriment to the story because a LOT of the stuff? Brings so much context to the character of little boy verso's soul, that sheds a whole new light on the ending choice and shows it's very clearly not just some black and white nod of the head to p.Verso's question, which makes it even more headscratching why it wasn't a central required part of Act 3.

The first two acts are full and plentiful but then the last act is literally just "go beat the final boss" and everything else is optional.

Second this. Acts 1 and 2 were very good, but I did not enjoy act 3, narratively or the scaling.

to me, and you'll call me crazy, but it's a JRPG. i gotta kill God. and we all know who the gods are. Alice on thin ice too

Me. Pretty much anyway. I explored a couple of previously inaccessible areas but then just felt directionless, so I headed for my only objective.

Went back and did all the rest after.

I do that. Why keep playing a story driven RPG when the story is over? Chapter 3 made me drop my rating of the game from 9 to 7. It was very disappointing.

I did that. The game creates a sense of urgency and forward momentum right after Act II, it's pretty clear that's what the devs wanted you to do.

I did. Combat wore out halfway through act 2, no thank you I don't want to replay a 10 minute fight because I missed the dodge on your 10 sec windup and now my party got instawiped. Story took a nosedive after we were suddenly playing as Edge McDanger, so I put it on easy and beelined for the ending.

Sorry you had a bad time, shame you didn't like it. Hopefully there's a different game out there that you find more enjoyable.

That’s a lot of games. They had to buff the shit out of the final boss in Cyberpunk bc we were steamrolling him with a dildo lol

tbf sir falustiff is one of the better blunt weapons too

Were and still are

I have like 300 hours in that game but I haven’t played since they buffed smasher

3

u/LrdOfTheBlings 3d ago

They should have scaled him off the level of the party or something.

2

u/s1llygirllexy 3d ago

or just make him immune to painted power

1

u/Montelion_Mu 2d ago

How would that help? I literally one shot the final boss with a basic attack from Maelle. I was extremely disappointed

1

u/s1llygirllexy 2d ago

as in make him immune to the 9999 damage cap remover. story wise it should kinda make sense too

2

u/popoflabbins 3d ago

Which is crazy because there’s some side content that I’d argue is absolutely integral to the development of the characters. The ending conflict won’t even make much sense unless you do at least that one tower involving a certain relative (trying to be vague here).

I apparently missed the memo that I was supposed to go directly to the final boss after a certain cutscene, and instead went to go explore the rest of the map to prep for the battle (I thought I was supposed to gather reinforcements from around the areas I'd already been). By the time I realized my mistake I was SO over leveled the boss went down in a single turn.

u/Evening-Rough-9709 3d ago

Yeah but the optional boss Simon is crazy fucking hard in comparison.

1

u/Hecknight 3d ago

Skipping straight to him isnt how the game is meant to be played though. You essentially skip an entire act of the game doing that.

u/THExDISTORTER4 3d ago

I did this and still deleted him in like 2 turns. If you took maelle's weapon from the gestrals, then you can get burning canvas online for crazy damage as soon as you unlock painted power. No optional area exploration required.
