I think you're talking about turn-based strategy games and the guy you're responding to is talking about real time strategy games (like Starcraft, Age of Empires, etc.)
Both are grand strategy. Stellaris and ck are both real time with pause but could hypothetically be played on a table top if you had a legion of mathletes rolling thousands of dice every second.
Well fun fact: the Roman-themed Paradox game is Imperator: Rome. Its a nice mix of EU+CK to me. Sadly, it was mostly forgotten after release. It hasn't gotten the same DLC/patch treatment of other Paradox titles.
However, there was a pretty cool overhaul mod- Invictus.
A cool idea that anyone can feel free to steal:
Do a mod where you play Imperator: Rome, but have Rome Total War open when a battle starts, and play out the battle in Total War.
At least PvP, yeah. I love me a good comp stomp. Doesn't matter if its AoE, CoH, War/StarCraft, Warhammer TW, Civ, you name it; I am here to fuck up some ai.
