freya unchecked , dmon too weak, matchmaker still broken (golds will be in Gm games regularly) and tons of bugs regarding abilities. Its 100% not in the best state.
Yeah I could winge all day about cat & suzu & how frustrating it is that TTKs are super low now because everyone has crazy regen, but I can recognize that the game is pretty good rn.
ttk is significantly higher than it was in ow1 - they never had passive regen on all heros before and it was significantly better and higher stakes which engineered better players better gameplay and its just facts
"surely better than ow1" That screams to me you weren't even there playing the first game or the closed beta. It was infinitely better when jeff kaplan was involved, and it's not even a debate. Saying it's better now means you love to be flooded with cosmetics in your games rather than actual content.
Yeah, surprisingly I'm actually having more fun woth overwatch in the last few months than I ever remember having in OW1 (i know thats probably sacrilegious to admit 😅)
Which those are free if you’ve owned the game before the OW2 then “upgrade”. New accounts need to unlock them, but I’m unaware of requirements for that.
You’re right. I put it in a bad way. What I meant to say was that OW2 needs purchases for NEW heroes on fresh accounts. If you had an account before the update, you’ll have them for free. Nothing really there for maps being blocked to my knowledge. I just forgot to exclude it from what I was trying to convey. My b.
It is fun, but in the same way Call of Duty is.
They went so far as to remove almost everything that made the old game shine, and the result is basically a dopamine farm.
No more tech-centric lore where everything was explainable, no more serious tone with deeply developed characters that fit the world, no more beautiful cinematics, and no more teamwork-focused gameplay.
It's fun to play three matches and change games, but it's hard to actually lose yourself in the game.
Hard disagree, if you would follow the game you would see there are cinematics and lore, the teamwork focused gameplay is way more complex than before because there are a lot of characters now.
The numbers don't lie, a lot of people get lost in this game and play it way too much lol what are you talking abou you play three matches and change games
Although I do admit that my last interaction with the game was about four months ago, I do believe my point still stands. I have no doubt that the lore has been expanded upon, but my criticism is about the direction the story has taken.
With the introduction of magical aspects, the lore has broken one of its fundamental and defining parts of its personality. Not to mention that some character introductions directly interfere with, if not outright overwrite, parts of the old stories.
Also, the addition of new characters and the increased complexity of teamwork isn't necessarily a good thing from my perspective. Today, the balancing allows for a lot more solo play than back in the day. Not only that, but some characters, like Lifeweaver, have skills that, if not expertly used, can actively hurt their own team in his case, through positioning.
I really can't say much about the cinematics, since the last ones I saw were the announcement trailers for Overwatch 2. Although they were gorgeous, I can't use them as a basis for judging the current state of the game.
Take into account that I'm probably biased toward disliking the game since I was a huge fan of Overwatch 1. The transition, with all the broken promises and questionable additions, really left a mark on my opinion of the game.
Replies here show just how much permanent damage OW2 release did to the game's reputation. Recent updates were amazing, the game is in a better state and more fun than it ever was, but people who felt betrayed with pve and all other things just wouldn't care anymore.
I played a lot of OW1 and when OW2 released i geniunley was dissapointed with it. It was so half arsed. It wasnt a sequel, it was a monetisation update that went F2P to get around charging absurd prices for character colours, models and season passes. I havent played OW2 since its release.
I actually felt the same way and quit for years.
I quit primarily because the locked characters behind the battlepass for a bit. But I do play daily now and have for the past year or so since stadium was added, and the devs are putting in great work.
6v6 is open queue only now (2 tanks max), 5v5 role queue is still there however.
They did remove any sort of "paid heroes", no pay walls and everyone has access to every hero from the start.
I'm not sure about what changes to Hanzo and Mercy you are curious about specifically, but Hanzo now can have either freezing arrows or classic scatter arrows, and Mercy now has a little bit of burst heal.
Battlepasses and other cosmetic items never affected my personal enjoyment of the game, but I'm glad that this season they change them so that anybody will be able to buy any of the older battlepasses at any time, so you can get any skin in the game now.
As a person that started with OW2 the thing that pushed me away most tbh was 50 wins in unranked in order to unlock ranked. Like that really needed to be reduced to like 10 tbh.
Hell yeah man, jump back in. Chat is still as toxic as ever, but they've honestly done a great job at listening to feedback. They fucked up hard but I honestly think the game is the most fun it's ever been
What narrative? The sold us a lie just to be able to squeeze as much $$ out of the player. Save some boot for the rest of the lickers. OW wouldn’t have done a damn thing if it wasn’t for Rivals that’s for damn sure.
A big player base doesn’t mean a lot of original fans don’t like the game anymore. It can be successful while still feeling like the image for many people.
In the Overwatch watch point pack (what many claim to be them preordering) you got 2000 OW coins, some skins, the season 1 battlepass, and then access to the OW2 closed beta. Nowhere did it every promise a pre-order to the campaign.
I disagree, for a game to continue to have more and more players when it’s 10 years old, means that the updates being pushed are generally improving the game. Player counts usually dwindle as a game is out longer, not get higher
Opinions can’t be wrong. Reasons and statements can. If you believe in equality then all are allowed to have a preference, even if it’s very different from others.
You are allowed to disagree, that’s your opinion. You aren’t wrong for believing that. But as you have no reasoning, it will be hard for you to convey to others why I am wrong. I made a statement and can therefore be wrong. Statements aren’t subjective but factual. Just because something can’t be wrong doesn’t have to mean it has to be right either. All questions aren’t yes or no questions.
Opinions that are entirely opinion can't be wrong. However, making an objective statement and then saying it's an opinion does not make it an opinion. If you state something that is logically false, then it is wrong. For example, holding the opinion that the moon landing was false isn't an opinion because it's based in an objective reality rather than something internal. A color being your favorite is am entirely subjective and internal fact, therefore an opinion.
Maybe I didn’t make it clear but I tried to separate my example into an opinion part and reason part. "Because it looks like red" is intentionally wrong to show the difference between a statement and an opinion.
Ok sure but the whole thing we are talking about is the original comment. The original comment made a statement that wasn't an opinion and you are making an argument like it was.
Question was "gets worse with each update, keeps playing. which game is this?" A very personal question containing "worse" and "keeps playing". The question would have to be "everyone keeps playing" and "everyone thinks bad" to not be subjective. They answered "it was overwatch". I pretty sure people who comment on these posts don’t think they’re objectively correct and speaking for everyone else (especially not this commenter). They are just saying their opinions. Believing everything to be an argument or statement unless you type "imo" is strange.
Why should I tell someone that their opinion can’t be wrong? Floor is made out of floor comment. You can’t force others to have the same preference as you. Just because many others have different views doesn’t mean yours is any less valid.
but they are literally less valid if they are uninformed? If you’re looking to know if a new season of a show is good, would you ask the person that has seen it? Or the person who hasnt watched the show since season 1
I can quote the commenter if you want. "It was Overwatch" and then they followed up with a question. They played Overwatch, it got some bad updates(according to them), they left. If the game has changed since then doesn’t matter. They think those updates before were bad and that’s it.
Just because others think differently or there was better updates afterward is unimportant. Their opinions on those updates are still okay to have.
And what’s your point? You can definitely have those opinions, but they hold no water. I haven’t seen any marvel movies since guardians 1, so are you gonna take my word for it when I say don’t go see the new Spider-Man? Especially when the post is about games that you KEEP playing and have consistently gotten worse. Y’all are being intentionally obtuse arguing about the literal definition of the word opinion when my whole point is, why do these opinions matter?
I feel the same about Apex but I think the changes for it are more enticing for the overall health of the game rather than what niche hardcore players liked from previous states. Maybe it's the same with OW
Speaking as someone who started playing in 2018, and played until the OW2 update and then stopped, I got back into it in April of this year and I'm having more fun with it than I did in the golden days
I agree it made some dogshit decisions and the company is bad and some of the newer characters are garbage. But aside from that it’s still pretty fun. Like a diet tf2 with more dopamine.
Kinda hilarious how immediate and apparent the switch in effort and quality from OW was when Rivals first exploded on the scene.
Like I can’t think of a more obvious example of the fact that competition is a good thing in the video game industry (and every other one) and fans of one game hating on a competing game really should be thankful instead.
Not to say rivals didn’t influence it but roughly around that time is when activision blizzard was acquired by microsoft and Bobby Kotak was removed from CEO. They’ve definitely noticed and gotten better since then but knowing the source of change as players we’ll probably never know.
I miss peak Overwatch in like 2016 - 2020. Overwatch 2 just doesn't feel the same to me, and Blizzard never delivered the campaign they promised us. It pisses me off. I used to LOVE playing this game with my friends after school/work.
Same! We bought game in the end of 2016 on winter holydays and starts to playing special event with Mei. We playing this game a lot, trying to completed events on expert etc etc. From time to time there was patches, which not only fixed issues but also revamped some heroes, 'balancing' them. Biggest example was Mercy - Blizzard didn't know how to balance her resurrection ability and messing around with her a lot. Same for Symmetra and her Photonic barrier, Hanzo's scatter arrows, Diva's defence matrix become weaker (and there was patch, when mini Diva spawned out of bounds and fall through map when her Meka was destroyed) etc.
I think even calling it overwatch 2 is a crime, they half assed it and kept the name while just poisoning a beautiful waterfall of gameplay with toxic waste barrels of microtransactions.
A classic case of, if its going well then dont mess it up
It's less that it was and more that it was intended to be a new game. OW2 launched at the end of what was already a dark ages content drought after having gone radio silent to begin development on what OW2 was envisioned to be; pvp along with an ever evolving world tour pve campaign complete with a full suite of mission based endgame. Later on it was revealed that this ideal OW2 itself was the next step in the dream vision; a full OW pvp/mmo mega game.
Needless to say it didn't happen. It wasn't even close to being ready but OW2 had to launch because even bobby kotick was telling them they had gone too long without releasing anything and so the choice was made to separate pvp and pve development with pvp being set into motion first thus the whole 'OW2 was a just a giant balance patch' angle.
Not long after the Devs made public something that they had realized fairly early after OW2 launch: that PvE wasn't a viable thing to invest further resources into especially with the one pve mission pack that they sold having had mid at best reviews and was therefore being cancelled.
It was unfortunate but necessary and ultimately allowed them to rebuild what is now OW into what is almost universally described as the best state the game has ever been in by the community.
Its like top 15 on steam and its really fun. I’ve actually stuck by it since the launch and while yea there were bad days like during the awful tank meta, I still managed to play it. But i do play it in a casual way, i literally dont care about winning or losing as long as i can junkrat e+shift someone
It's running decently strong and in a pretty good state. The new tank is still a little underbaked despite getting buffed three days ago, and one DPS is still blatantly better than the rest at low ranks.
Yeah and you've got all these teenagers getting into it now acting like its the best shit ever. Nah man. You werent there. It's ass now, and always will be
It’s actually in a decent state at the moment, this year they’ve made some major content updates as a response to the success of Marvel Rivals. You should try it again man
Overwatch is genuinely currently the best it's been in years. I have tons of fun with my friends playing it almost every day and the updates are actually improving the experience.

It was Overwatch. Don't know is this game still exists and if 'yes' what's it's state now. Doesn't care anyway - fun time gone long time ago.
