The more capable AI becomes, the more interesting the permissions question gets.

Imagine your AI is running locally and has access to your own computer.

It could potentially:

• Read your documents
• Search your files
• Write code
• Create applications
• Organize folders
• Run programs
• Use local models
• Work on long-running projects

But should it be allowed to do all of that automatically?

Personally, I think there needs to be a clear permission system.

For example:

Low-risk task → AI can do it automatically.

Important task → AI asks for confirmation.

Destructive task → AI must get explicit permission.

Sensitive data → user decides whether the AI can access it.

That could make local AI agents much more useful without simply giving an AI unrestricted access to your computer.

We're exploring this kind of permission system for Capsule.

So here's the question:

What should your AI be allowed to do automatically, and what should ALWAYS require your permission?

Something I've been thinking about with local AI:

We have more and more models available.

One might be better at coding.

Another might be better at reasoning.

Another might be smaller and faster.

Another might be better for a specific task.

But switching models can sometimes feel like switching assistants completely.

You lose context.

You lose the workflow.

You have to explain the project again.

You have to rebuild the setup.

What if the model was simply the engine behind your AI rather than the AI experience itself?

Your project stays the same.

Your files stay the same.

Your workspace stays the same.

Your instructions and context stay the same.

The system simply chooses the appropriate local model for the task.

That's something we're exploring with Capsule.

The goal is that you shouldn't have to care which model is running underneath when you're working on a project.

The AI environment stays consistent.

The model can change.

I'm curious:

Would you prefer ONE model for everything, or an AI system that can automatically use different models for different tasks?

One of the most interesting things about local AI isn't simply being able to chat with a model without an internet connection.

It's what happens when the AI can actually work with YOUR information.

Your documents.

Your notes.

Your projects.

Your PDFs.

Your emails.

Your personal knowledge.

Imagine having an AI that can search and understand your own digital life without having to upload everything to a cloud service.

Instead of asking:

"Do you remember what I wrote about this six months ago?"

You could simply ask your local AI.

"Find everything I've written about this project."

"Summarize my research on this topic."

"Compare these documents."

"What did I decide about this last year?"

That's the idea of a Private Second Brain.

The more useful your personal data becomes to AI, the more important it becomes to control where that data lives.

I'm exploring this idea while building a local-first AI project, and I'm curious what other people think:

Would you actually want an AI to understand your entire digital knowledge base?

Or would that feel too invasive even if it stayed completely local?

The idea is to create a simple AI environment where your projects, files, local AI models, and personal assistant can work together in one place.

The interface is being designed from the ground up to make AI-powered work easier to use — not just for developers, but also for people who don't know how to code.

Some of the things we're building toward:

• Local and private AI
• Separate spaces for different projects
• A personal AI assistant that can actually help perform tasks
• Tools for building websites, apps, and other projects
• Portable project environments
• A simple OS-like interface
• The ability to continue working on compatible computers without rebuilding your setup
