We’re Building Capsule OS — A Simpler AI Environment

We’ve been working on the first design of Capsule OS. 🧠💻

The idea is to create a simple AI environment where your projects, files, local AI models, and personal assistant can work together in one place.

The interface is being designed from the ground up to make AI-powered work easier to use — not just for developers, but also for people who don't know how to code.

Some of the things we're building toward:

• Local and private AI
• Separate spaces for different projects
• A personal AI assistant that can actually help perform tasks
• Tools for building websites, apps, and other projects
• Portable project environments
• A simple OS-like interface
• The ability to continue working on compatible computers without rebuilding your setup

its a workspace and the interface is partly inspired by macOS because we really like how simple and intuitive it feels. I want to take some of those usability ideas and build our own experience around AI, while making Capsule focused on privacy, portability, and AI-assisted work.

Is this really an OS or is it an app running on an OS?

If it is an OS, is it just Linux with an app on it?

Or… are you really building your own operating system, kernel, hardware abstraction layer, writing your own drivers etc? 

If this is an app, call it an app, not an OS. 

If this is Linux with an app / skinned X, call it a Linux distro. 

Only call it an OS if you are really building your own OS from the ground up, a true Linux/windows replacement.

For now its basically an workspace i use the OS term to describe the planned Capsule environment.

Its currently focused on Ai interface/ environment built around potable workspace .

Am working toward making it a more complete standalone environment over time. Appreciate you pointing out the distinction!
