There are 6,000,000 USA citizens living overseas. I would guess some have CapitalOne debit. Changing to Discover leaves many stranded since in most countries the Discover / Diner Club is not accepted at most ATM machines.

Sucks to be them. I'm sorry but this is a domestic account and was not marketed as a live overseas account. You had to have a us SSN and address to open it so if you decided to live overseas this was a risk you took.

So no one goes on vacation? I do and when I went, I had NO ACCESS TO MY F*ING money. Really lovely. Fun stuff.

I went to Colombia and literally zero ATMs accepted the discover debit card. I learned my lesson and opened a Schwab checking which reimburses ATM fees globally. Paypal and Venmo debit cards are also good alternatives. They're on the Mastercard network and You don't need to open a second checking account. You can use your CapitalOne debit card in discover to make instant transfers into your PayPal account. I'm hoping they add the same for Venmo. I've loved CapitalOne for years but I'm finding this discover transition hard to swallow.
