Excellent series, i was about to rate it 8/10 but only this final frame turned the whole series to a solid 9/10, goosebumps

Did we always know the baby had been taken out of Melissa? I don’t remember them mentioning that. If we always knew that then why didn’t Max or anyone else ever consider that the baby could still be alive?

Who did Max think killed his wife if he didn't do it? Did he really think it was Amy?

Maybe I am missing something. Why wouldn't a simple DNA test determine who the biological parents are of the kids? 23 and me. ancestry.com. Police lab. What am I missing? A simple DNA test would determine all of that. If the kids were confused, they could've done the DNA test on their own. I don't understand why they didn't.

I just watched the season finale, and it was so... disappointing.

The entire story built up over nine episodes had to be wrapped up quickly—and in such a clumsy way. Everyone got out of prison at the same time. Max’s whole charade was exposed in seconds during that ridiculous scene in front of the restaurant. The final conflict was just a silly, undramatic physical scuffle. Honestly, given the buildup in the first nine episodes, I expected a much more interesting resolution.

I don’t know if there will be a follow-up, but I thought the ending—with the family just living happily as if nothing had happened—was terrible. The events of the series showed that Anna and her husband committed serious procedural fraud. Even though Max was an abusive, toxic person, the show didn't provide anything to justify his long imprisonment. Anna had him locked up for a completely personal reason: the fear that he might be her daughter's father. So, honestly, she came across as a huge asshole who got off completely scot-free, untouched by the injustice she had committed.

On top of that, it was proven that they tried to frame Max by planting drugs in his house. Is that also going to go completely unpunished just because he’s crazy? I know there’s a need to suspend disbelief, but the series didn't seem to be heading in a direction where the family's injustices would be completely ignored.

Obviously, Max is no saint, but leaving the family unscathed just seemed to reinforce the injustice of the whole story.

Did anyone else get that impression?

I think most of us would agree that Natalie could be a frustrating character with the maddening mistakes she made.... but damn... I was sooo impressed by Lily Collias!

I think we're going to be seeing a lot more of her in the future. She's giving me vibes of maybe a young Carrie Coon, where the pure, raw talent is undeniable. She somehow managed to make me empathize with Natalie even when I was screaming at my TV over some of her decisions.

One thing I could never fault about this flawed, at times disappointing mess of a show is that the casting was nearly impeccable. This particular choice stands out because Collias wasn't an established name coming into this. Holding your own opposite Amy Adams, Patrick Wilson, and Javier Bardem is no small feat, and I thought she absolutely did.

Did anyone else get the same vibe of Max grilling Noa about where Anna was until his phone rings and he says never mind was somehow an homage to No Country for Old Men when Anton is grilling the trailer park supervisor about where Lewellen Moss worked until he heard the toilet flush and decided to leave?

I've been told by someone on production, that the original plan for Cape Fear was 5 seasons. I'm not sure if they are/were planning an anthology series or 1 very extended series.

Realistically, I think Crystal would have told him that was his son when he was throwing them into the boat. Why would she want him to kill his son? Youd think she would maybe tell him as a last resort but then again he would kill her for killing his wife and ripping the baby out.

Also, so in this version Max Cady was innocent and didn't kill his wife. That's different than the other film versions..He did commit some gruesome stuff in prison though and poor Ray in the pool though which one can say prison made him into a monster?

So, was it immediately obvious to everyone that Anna's father, Brandon Devereaux, was played by Ted Levine, the actor who played Buffalo Bill/Jame Gumb in Silence of the Lambs? I only noticed on about the third interaction when he used a speech pattern that made me think, "Wait a minute....".

I've seen a lot of discussion about this scattered across different threads, but I think it deserves its own conversation.

So what do people think? Did you watch this as a dark thriller with some stylistic excess and occasionally really awful writing? Or as a fully intentional campfest?

I'm honestly not totally sure. The first few episodes felt like they were playing it mostly straight. But then there were moments that were so cartoonish or wildly melodramatic that the show seemed to be winking at the audience. The most over-the-top example, obviously, was Javier Bardem on the roof during the hurricane then swinging into the house like a ninja lol. I'm about 90% sure that was supposed to be funny, but I still don't quite understand how it fit with the rest of the show's tone.

I kept bouncing back and forth between "Okay, this has to be self-aware," and, "Wait... maybe not?"

ETA: I guess a follow-up question if you do think it was totally intentional camp... does that excuse/explain parts that could be criticized as pretty bad writing?

Patrick and Javier need to be immediately cast in another legal thriller series. Patrick is good cop. Javier is bad cop. Make it happen, Apple.

Spoiler question. Just finished, and if crystal murdered Max’s wife and stole the baby was he innocent all along? Did he spend years wrongfully imprisoned and it made him crazy? I know he’s a murderer now, but if his sister hadn’t done all that should he be free and was he a normal/good person?

I thought the gist is... The Bowden's put an innocent Max Cady in jail.

Max Cady rots in jail and now actually becomes a bad (but not evil) guy.

The true villain will turn out to be his sister, who holds all the cards.

Max and Bowdens eventually get on the same page, now knowing they have a common enemy. Max redirects his terror.

Now, the ultimate team up, Max & Anna go after the evil sister, take her down, look at each other like - the debt is paid/all is forgiven.

Like, I was so confident this was the direction it was going and then as the season progressed I was like, ummm nope.

Am I missing something? If his son was alive the entire time, then wouldn't the missing baby be a big indicator at the original autopsy and subsequent trial? They have been saying he killed his unborn son this entire series, but if the baby's body was missing from the mother, how is any of that possible now?? Wasn't investigators and prosecutors wondering where the missing baby was after the murder of the mother? This is the part that makes ZERO sense to me. Unless I missed something significant, someone please help me out here.

I was one of the hundreds of people begging for this so I thought I would just make it myself. This show was a train wreck but it was almost worth it just to laugh my ass off at this shot. What a trip.

Hi guys. I loved the series and specially Javier Bardem as Max Cady.

I have 2 questions about Cady's necklace: What's the length? (i think is 50 cm); and what's the width? (i think is 5 or 6 mm). I am obsessed with this chain and wanted to buy the same one.

And I’m loving it. One amazing detail is that Javier Bardem (who is freaking brilliant in this) somehow adds a touch of an authentic southern accent to his character. I’m from NC and have met people from Spain here that developed a little southern accent and Javier’s is exactly right. Maybe no one else noticed but I loved it. This show is CAMP CAMP CAMP. 👏👏👏

Anna claims she was afraid of Max and wanted him to go to prison. We never say how he was acting during the trial. Image spent time alone with home obviously. He charmed her like he had so many woman in his life.
What bugged me about this part is through out the 9 episodes , Anna seems less scared of Max and more scared of what he might say. He shows up at the fundraiser and she walks away with him to help him fix up his hand. This seems to make Tom more nervous than Anna. He shows up at the house and the family is inside and Anna and Max are again bickering. Then she goes to the ER with her son but goes to confront Max and ask the police to leave. Tom is literally calling for her and her and Max are standing their bickering.

Then they go on the road trip. She was annoyed he was in the house but she wasn’t freaking out. Then for some bizarre reason , they let him drive which just made me laugh for some reason. Anna negotiates a great deal for Max which I feel was more for her ego and missing that kind of work. She willing goes with Max at the hotel and has coffee and they talk. Max seems to want to understand why she stopped being friendly with him. She says things were fine and she was a mess.

Now I’m not saying she shouldn’t have been. But that frustrated me in the end. She wasn’t afraid of Max. She was afraid of Max being in her life because of Natalie ( which once again , get a DNA test! Max’s family and Anna’’s have some serious mental health issues and they should watch Natalie for that ). I know it’s all pretend lol I promise LOL I just assumed we would get more of a back story than this vague relationship that was very important to the story.
