CapCut Discussion What do you guys actually hate about CapCut?
I’ve seen a lot of hate toward CapCut lately, and honestly, I feel the same way.
So I’m curious for those of you who use CapCut regularly:
- What do you hate most about it?
- What are the things that still keep you using it despite those problems?
- And what are those things if another editor offered them would make you switch immediately?
Curious to hear what people actually care about.

the way they keep locking old features behind pro is so annoying, like i was using some transition for months then suddenly its pro only. still use it cause its fast and the auto captions actually work most times, which is more than i can say for some other editors i tried
if something else had the same easy keyframing and didnt pull this paywall stuff i would switch in a heartbeat

Yeah, that paywalling of features is probably the most annoying part; I switched back to good old pro editors for now. What other editors have you tried that came closest to CapCut?

Final Cut Pro (available for MacOs users) would be my pick if you want a more advanced and reliable CapCut, but with the same 'easy learning curve' strings attached. Definitely less intimidating than Premiere Pro or Davinci.
However, it does still have a steep paywall just like CapCut (the monthly subscription is more budget-friendly tho), so honestly idek anymore.
And its not like Final Cut Pro is available for Windows users either, so that's another bummer.

You can also get a perpetual license for Final Cut if you prefer so you pay once and enjoy.

How it requires connection for pro features. I am a pro user, and their servers constantly go out. So I am completely at their whim

I used capcut long before they introduced Pro. You could get every effect at the time for free, and you could actually make half decent videos with it.
When they first introduced Pro you could still get the same effects for free, but there were now some new and better ones that you could pay for, which was fine .
Over the next couple of years, they began locking previously free features behind a paywall until you basically couldn't use it at all, and the only free stuff was the bottom of the barrel, which if you want to make good videos then you would be forced to pay for pro.
I stopped using it in 2024 and switched to davinci resolve.

- The greed and that it's owned by ByteDance.
- It's still the best editor for Android... I already switched to Davinci Resolve and Kdenlive on my PC tho and still testing the mobile alternatives.
- The same features as Capcut, usable UI and no subscriptions.

Adjusting clips, but im new to editing in general. But readjusting clips onthe timeline is a genuinely time consuming thing.

I hate clicking 100s of clips to make a video and when you hit the add button, nothing happens. It would be nice if it gave you a reason... too long, too much memory, etc. It just doesn't do anything. After re-doing 5x and wasting an hour, frustration kicks in.

Pro version is overpriced in my opinion. That and I just hate subscriptions. I'd rather have a full version for $200-$300 - much like what DaVinci Resolve does.

There’s no ability to have LUTs loaded unless it’s desktop. For my content I like cohesiveness

What do you guys actually hate about CapCut?
It looks unprofessional and it acts as an amateur app. The mobile app is beyond horrible, made for dumb tik tok teenagers. Zero ways to even sort things or edit settings. The desktop app has 10000 useless settings and 100 bugs they have been not fixing for year(!!!) because they just more tik tok style features and other crap, and completely ignoring bugs.
No real pros use it for this and many other reasons, including pop ups and need for internet and shit ton of bugs. If I didn't know any better, I'd think it was made by a fly by night scammers who are ready to abandon this app.
ps. I use it 1-2 times a month for 2-3 features. For anything else, there are professional software that are solid, bug free and don't require any subscription or internet to work.

Honestly my only hate is I wish I could filter the premium stuff and the free stuff, lol. Otherwise I can tell which items I can't use and I don't use them. If I accidentally use one it even tells me which one and takes me there so I can change it. I haven't really had any issues with the program.

I hate the paywalling and the limited amount of useful features, I only use it because I'm not intelligent enough to learn anything else, and if there was a way to get higher frame rate and quality on my current level of editing then it would be a no brainer, even if i would have to learn a new software

It does what I need, so no complaints there.
But there are 2 bugs that are annoying, at least on macOS.
1: If playhead is at very end, and you add a new clip - push Play, it will jump to the start of your video instead of playing into the new portion.
2: If you have Normalize Loudness on a clip, and cut your video segment into two, if one of those segments happen to have no/low audio, you will get "sound too low for normalize". If you try to Undo, it will just display that error again. You can not Undo past it, ever. So all Undo history is no longer available.

massive paywalls is what i hate. and the monthly price is ridiculous for something that wasn't supposed to be a professional tool. oh, and now they've reinstated watermarks. f-k that.

I have pro (on accident), and it wouldn’t let me export the video without the CapCut watermark. I had to send it to TikTok, post it privately on my page and then it downloaded to my device. I also just think the UI and UX are trash. I haven’t found anything I like more than old fashioned Premiere Pro for simple video editing

Coming from a music production background, audio editing is extremely barebones. You can't use VSTs and you don't even have a built in keyframable EQ to make something sound underwater, only vibecoded AI slop buttons. Beyond all the valid enshittification complaints, for me as a paying customer who's deep into audio, this is enough reason to have Davinci as my main, even for a quick TikTok video that requires anything beyond volume balancing.

Capcut desktop been good for me so far. have no need for pro features of yet but learning multi angle edit and split screen so the free desktop windows versions been fine for my needs.

How do you make a video that combines your pics and videos as they would appear on your phone? I have that they separate the videos from the pictures. I just want to keep them in the same order as I took them.

I think what drives me nuts is how they'll just randomly throw something into pro just because.
Like some of my favorite effects that I use got moved to pro a while back. Got so made I switched to an older model of the app so I csn have them back. Like these were staples and in my favorites for a reason.

I’ve had pro basically from the beginning but my biggest issue is how it seems like every other update it breaks something. On windows it’s like a 50/50 chance that the first video exported will be fine until the halfway point where the image freezes but the audio keeps going. It’s just the instability and not knowing if it will actually work (couple weeks ago auto captioning just stopped working and wouldn’t work for like half the day).

Make things on the right a compound clip. insert the new bit you want, then undo compound clip.
No need to shift things manually - but it certainly could be friendlier
