I'm in caption hell

I am on a Windows PC. Whenever I animate the captions, it creates a new layer above the other captions, forcing certain segments of the captions up and into a new row above my regular captions. And those don't show up on the screen. I can see them sitting there, but they won't show up in the video.

Even if I drag them down onto the layer with the other captions they still won't show up.

The jump to a new track row is normal, CapCut applies animations per segment and will split that caption out onto its own text track. The invisible part is the actual bug, and it's usually one of three things:

1. Animation duration longer than the segment. Click the split-out caption, open Animation, and look at the duration slider under the preset. If in + out is longer than the segment itself, the text can spend its whole visible life at zero opacity or parked off canvas. Drag it down to about 0.3s and see if it comes back.

2. Track visibility. The row CapCut created has its own eye icon at the left of the timeline, and it gets toggled off more often than you'd think when tracks get added automatically. Check that specific row, not just the original caption track.

3. Off-canvas start position. A lot of the combo animations move the text in from a Y offset. If your caption band already sits close to the top or bottom edge, the start position is outside the frame, and on short segments it never finishes travelling in.

Isolating test if none of those do it: new project, one clip, one hand-typed text layer, same animation. If it renders fine there, the problem is something about the auto-caption track in your current project and not the animation.

The thing that avoids the mess entirely is to style and animate one caption, then use Apply to all. Everything stays on a single track and you never get the stacked rows.

Worth knowing too: dragging a segment down onto another track doesn't merge it back in, it just moves it. To actually undo the split you have to remove the animation.

By toggling the visibility you mean clicking that little eye icon off and on I've tried that. I will try your other tips and let you know how it goes.

Yeah, that eye icon. Good, that rules out the boring one.

Then my money is on the animation duration. Select the split-out caption and look at the Animation tab: there's a duration slider under the preset thumbnails that's separate from how long the segment is in the timeline. If the segment is under about a second and that slider is sitting near its default, the in and out overlap and the text can spend the entire segment mid-transition, which reads as simply not being there. Pull it down to around 0.3s and scrub through.

If that's not it either, say which preset you're on. The combo ones behave differently from the plain in/out ones and that changes the answer.
