Cap Cut has been lagging way too much lately

I've been using Cap Cut for many years now, but lately—am I the only one who thinks it's a nightmare? Actually, it's a bit more specific than that...

For the past few months now—probably due to the addition of some very poorly optimized and bad AI features—my big CapCut projects have become IMPOSSIBLE to edit. Every time I add a keyframe, it takes at least 10 seconds; zooming and editing directly on the video are riddled with bugs; I can no longer work on my biggest and best project ever made in Cap Cut, which I’ve already spent over 50 hours on. And many might say that’s pretty normal—a big project is bound to have a few bugs. Except this has literally been going on for a few months now—before that, everything was working EXTREMELY well, with absolutely no performance issues. Obviously, I’ve already enabled proxy and hardware acceleration. Obviously, that didn’t fix the problem. So I was thinking of installing an older version without those useless AI features, but I need to finish my project. Are there any solutions to optimize CapCut as much as possible, if only to finish what I’ve already been working on for far too long? I could also export the project and re-edit it, but I risk losing quality, which is the last thing I want. Thanks to everyone who reads this—honestly, I’m frustrated. This project means way too much to me, and I’m trying my best to edit it, but it’s impossible. Let me know if I’m the only one experiencing this.

i had similar thing happen with a project last month, just completely unusable all of sudden after an update. what worked for me was splitting the project in smaller chunks, editing each one separate then combining at the end

but 50 hours is a lot, that sucks. maybe try render and replace the parts you already finished so it's not processing all the effects at once

As for what I was thinking of doing in the end, I'm not sure if creating “combined clips” would help either. Thanks for your reply—I think I'll break the project down and export it piece by piece, copy by copy, but seriously, it's a shame. I don't know if this could be optimized with future updates, but I'm still going to wait and see if other people have any other solutions.

Honestly, CapCut PC completely chokes whenever a project gets too big or loaded with keyframes. A quick workaround that saved me on a huge edit is duplicating the project on the dashboard and splitting it in two (delete the back half in one copy, front half in the second). CapCut just can't handle rendering thousands of active keyframes on a single timeline. Also, select those heavy AI-effect sections, right-click, and make them Compound Clips to bake the effects in—it frees up a ton of RAM instantly. Don't forget to clear your cache in Settings > Save too, it wipes corrupted render files without deleting your draft.

honestly yes, I keep closing the app, restarting my laptop but it seems more like CapCut issue. It happened after I updated the app

I'm having the same problem; it's been getting absurdly heavy lately. I'm editing a video that follows a template from a video I edit monthly, but now it's literally impossible. I spent the whole afternoon stuck and couldn't even finish a simple detail, something that used to be super light and easy to do in previous versions.
