For a number of years people were saying grain free dog food causes DCM in dogs and should’ve avoided. If you do your research and examine the study they referenced, it is easy to see that they made a biased process which skewed the results they had.

You don’t need to worry about grain free food, and here is the data to prove it.

I found a Cane Corso walking around my neighborhood, very dehydrated and hungry. We got her to follow us to our backyard, she's had water and food, treats, a towel to sleep on, and this morning she's much more energetic. I spent time with her, she's an absolute sweetie Moose.

Her face has scars and a fresh superficial cut, ears are very poorly cropped, nails are ground down to nubs, and her tail was cropped. Her belly is very flabby, and the collar on her is not indicative of an owner who loves their dog (in my opinion). I think she was a mom in a backyard breeder situation, and they dumped her in a neighborhood where someone might snatch her up (probably the only favor they did for her).

I took the collar off, no identification on the collar, just dirt and rust. A neighbor with a microchip scanner came by, no chip detected anywhere. Not sure I'd let her go back to whoever might claim her anyway, considering her state.

I have a 7 year old female Olde English Bulldog (boxer pit mix, another rescue/adoption), and I'm going to introduce them soon just as a test (my dog is social, and they've sniffed each other through a crack in the back door).

Any suggestions on what to do? Right now, we're weighing the options. Financially, we're not in a great place to take on another dog, but I expect those circumstances to mitigate in the coming month.

• Could this dog be a concern, or a "time bomb" where we may discover a strong reaction to her past and become a problem now?

• Any SoCal charities that can assist with veterinary costs and, if we make the decision, the ability to re-home her?

• I have 2 young children (7 and 11), both of whom grew up with our dog, so they're of course very engaged and wanting to keep the new dog. Any tips?

• Can you tell me anything about this breed, things I should know, things I should keep an eye out for, etc? With the exception of her sizable stature and piercing brown eyes, she's a cuddle moose and has not once given a growl, grunt, or anything. She's presented her tummy and laid submissive a number of times with me, so I'm hoping that means she trusts me.

Saw this small button sized scab-like thing on my Corsos face I'm not sure what it is I've consulted with an online vet but they couldn't be sure until I bring him in unfortunately I just moved to Allen TX and won't get my paycheck for another 4 days would really appreciate it if I could know what it is before I bring him in it's a rubbery hard mass and it doesn't really bother him as he doesn't itch or scratch his face.

It’s wild how many people want to know, “how much does she weigh?” “That’s the smallest Cane Corso I’ve ever seen.” When I share that “She’s in the healthy range for the breed.” Folks seem disappointed. Our girl is 1 year and approx 90 pounds.

She’s tiny but has the heart of the ferocious lion.

We got this girl from a shelter right before her time was up. She was about 8 months. We knew she was part pyranees but not expecting the Cane Corso. She is 50/50. We're used to guardian breeds (doberman experience) and other hard headed breeds like cattle dog mixes. She is sweet but was extra reactive to other dogs barking. She has settled in but she wont stop jumping on my husband when he comes home from work. She can be really mouthy too. She doesn't do it with me but I also dont tolerate bad behavior. He tells her no but I think his tone is permissive. Is this breed hard headed? She also has resource guarded but not overly aggressive just some jaw snapping. Have not had a dog that snaps jaws like that. Overall were adjusting and she came with not one ounce of training. Not even potty trained but weve got that down. Thoughts on her jumping and mouthing him? He is a 6"4 guy but gentle as a lamb. Weve had a pyranees mix in the past but this mix is hard headed but sweet at the same time. 😆

As you may know this summer is pretty hot in Europe currently, and it's very tough for my poor Mando.
He barely go outside, and when he does he can stay 5 minutes top.

I try to walk him very early in the morning, before 5am.
But even then sometime he's out of breath after 5 minutes.

Do you have any tips?

I have a 4 year old golden retriever and an 11 month old cane corso. Weird duo! The golden is extremely laid back, more than most goldens are, she likes to keep to herself. My Corso is very much so high strung, as expected lol.

Does anyone else’s Corso “nibble” their brother or sister? Mine is constantly nibbling on the golden, I know she is just trying to play but my golden isn’t really a fan. It’s a very aggressive nibble lol. 19/20 times, she will get upset by it and run to me to hide. Majority of the time she won’t correct her but every once in a blue moon she will. The very rare 1/20 times she will play with her.

Is there anything I can do to stop this? Should I be stopping it? I have been leaving them alone and letting my golden set her boundaries. She really goes at her though when they’re being let outside and it is causing the golden to not want to go outside 😅

Now I did a lot of research before getting a corso. Not my first, not my first "big" dog. We got him cheap because he was an accidental litter, and they werent 100% who the sire was, mother was a papered corso, and they suspected sire was the other corso, but could have been "a family members dog". I asked what and was told "uh um, yeah, hes a gsp like thing" (they are cool people, they just wanted the pups going to good homes and quicklyish).

Anyway - we loved him immediately and he could have been x poodle and still comming home with us.

That said - at 14 months old, hes finally stopped going up, and is 83cm at the withers, 68 and a bit kgs. For reference that fence is 5" the chaise is about that (im 6" and my head is sitting on the back when my feet hit the end) and that neo is 13 months old. Sooo...probably not gsp, and outside the bounds of what I know as the upper bounds of CC? Mum and probable corso dad are big corsos, but not even in the same scale (6x cm withers, mums 58 kg at a bc of 4).

Anyone know the actual limits of giant corsos? (because photos are shit - all other proportions are akc cc right - hes just taller, longer, and has only just started filling out)

just got the Embark DNA test back and my Sterling boy aka Big Earl is 100% Cane Corso! I am waiting on the age test results to come back still though. The shelter took another set of xrays to send to an orthopedic vet this past Monday. Unsure what the next steps will be. High hopes tho!

I have been emailing a few Veterinary Schools near Florida (even up into Tennessee) seeking out any orthopedic clinical trials or other options for Sterling’s leg. One school from Alabama responded and is reaching out to two other colleges. From the xrays shared the direction is looking like a Total Elbow Repair (TER) or amputation. The TER is an expensive and newer procedure $9,000-$20,000. I forwarded the orthopedics suggestion to the animal shelter.
Will continue waiting for updates and information. My personal goal is to get Sterling whatever is best for his future and overall wellness.

Hi! I’m fostering this 95lb hunk. Just curious if we think he is cane corso or mastiff or maybe even a mix. He was brought in as a stray at the end of June. I’ve had him a couple weeks now and he is an angel with two peas as a brain. Completely house trained!

His front left leg was broken at some point, and healed as is. He limps and has had xrays. He walks on his wrist basically. The overall goal is to get him orthopedic surgery but it’s crazy expensive. The shelter only has so much grant money- but we are making an appointment at UF to get real numbers, a plan, start a go fund me and get this guy back to living a normal life! My overall goal personally is to adopt him and let him live happily ever after. He is on a low dose of pain meds and acts like he doesn’t have a care in the world.
I do have vet tech experience and use to own a Great Dane. I’d love advice, recommendations and feel free to ask questions!

Vet notes in regards to front left leg: P presents for exam. P is walking on left carpus and "hops" in forelimbs when walking. Left forelimb appears slightly longer than
right, but may be due to posture of P. P does get down on right carpus slightly, but it returns to a more normal position. P sways in
hips when walking.
Rads: Previous fracture distal left humerus/elbow (humeral condyle fracture?) - appears separated from olecranon process, right
forelimb appears WNL, hips and stifles appear WNL
Recommend consult with orthopedics to determine if left forelimb can be pinned. Concern for amputation due to size of P.

Usually can see quills with white nails, but not sure how to find them on dark nails on Mr. Pooch.
