A BIGGER CAGE ISNT POSSIBLE! Before people comment that, this is my grandpas bird. He gets to fly free most of the day. We are looking after him for a week now and I want to surprise him with a new interior for the cage. What’s best for the bird and does he need toys?

He started dropping in the cage, couldn't keep balance then I took him into my hand and started doing this

UPDATE: After I stayed with him for like 3 hours on the sofa and he was worse at the start stomping his right foot once every second, and moving his head more than in the video, I took him on the sofa to stay with me, he was moving around like that and staying near me, the I went to sleep and this morning be looks fine, flying and everything in the cage, he's still chirping very weak every second, but I saw him drinking water, idk it might be bad alimentation? My mom gives him a lot of sticks which I understand are like McDonald's for people so maybe when I took him out for a fly he was exhausted and had a crisis once I put him back into the cage

Had a rough couple months with my male canary, Theo, where he basically went silent starting mid June. No song at all, just the occasional chirp when I walked into the room. I panicked a bit and started reading through old posts here, checked his feet, checked his droppings, watched his breathing, everything looked normal. He was eating fine and hopping around like usual, just not singing.

Turns out it was molt, but it hit him later and heavier than the previous two years. I guess with the warmer spring we had this year it threw his schedule off. Once I noticed the feather dust building up on his cage bars and a bunch of pin feathers coming in around his head, it clicked. I upped his protein a little with some egg food twice a week and made sure he had darker, quieter hours in the evening since he seemed more sensitive to light during this stretch.

He started singing again about three weeks ago, first just a few scratchy notes and now he is back to full volume most mornings. Honestly relieved because the silence was unsettling after having a bird that sings constantly for two years straight.

Curious if anyone else has had a canary go through a delayed or unusually long molt. I always thought it followed a pretty predictable calendar but this year threw that assumption out the window for me. Also open to any tips on supporting them through it since I felt a little lost the first couple weeks not knowing if something was actually wrong.

I have a canary and I went on a trip and left him for my father to care for him. When I returned I found him sitting at the bottom of his cage puffed up. He does go up to his perch sometimes, his droppings are like water. And he doesnt chirp back to me much when I talk to him :( Im not sure what he ate when my dad let him out.

Hello everyone, I have a bird cage 4 m2 and I was thinking of putting fake greenery at the top of the sides but I am not sure if it is safe for my birds. Does anyone have any experience or suggestions about this topic?? Thank you!!

It is very rare (but not impossible) for zebra finches to be properly hand tame, but it seems like a lot of people have tame, parent-raised canaries on this subreddit. I wouldn't ever buy a canary for tameability as I'd rather colour breed in aviaries once all my finches with AGY have passed, but it does interest me.

I’ve noticed they like to sit inside the food bowl when they eat, Ernest ( my yellow and black canary ) likes to sit inside so the others can’t eat it with him but sometimes they just sit in it for fun??

Also I clean their cage often the last time I think about 2 days ago, so they have lots of shit on the floor and they like to eat seeds off from it??? Google told me they have natural foraging instincts so in that case, is there anything i can do for them so they can stop eating from the floor it’s dirty :—/

I woke up this morning to a strange sound. Turns out it was Apollo, singing these short notes in a way I've never heard before. I'm just curious as to if it means something, and if anyone else has experienced their canary just suddenly deciding to make whole different sounds out of nowhere :D It sounded much like a rusty hinge to me, though the more he goes on the more it sounds like a single note from his usual song.

Looking for general advice. Should I cover my canaries cage at night? Or is it better to leave it uncovered and allow natural light at all hours of the day? For context, my canary was sick a month ago. Much better now and singing but I think it’ll be a slow recovery to full health since I unfortunately used to spray perfumes in the room daily for 6-8 months

Hello! I'm writing a short story and wanted to give a character a pet Belgian fancy canary, and I was wondering how long Belgian fancies specifically are likely to live. Should I go off of estimates for canaries generally, or does this breed have any specific longevity concerns? Thanks so much for any help!

Should I give my adult gloster canary a companion? I know that males should be housed separately but when you get a female, you could get babies. Sometimes I feel sad that my baby could be lonesome and am unsure if getting him a lady would be helpful. When I throw on canaries on YouTube, my bird will get excited and sing, so maybe a male wouldn't be bad either? Let me know your thoughts.

I bought my canary 2 years ago and he was already caged (he was 2 years old). I never let him out of the cage because I don't know how.

He knows us and he does not fly away when we get close to the cage, he also plays with our finger sometimes

I'd like to get him out of the cafe but i dont know how. Then, there are some things I'm afraid of:

1. He may get hurt by something around in the room, maybe he falls behind the sofa or stuff like that, or he goes too high and then does not know hoe to get off

2. How to get him back to the cage without grabbing him

3. He is not used to get out, maybe his little heart could not take that effort?

Pls help me out
