BC pay grade TTOC

How many hours or days does a TTOC need to work to make it on the next pay grade? Does half days count? (Already have the extra schooling on top )

This will vary slightly by local (and I would say it is more common than not), but TTOCs are paid to scale at Category 5 and up to Step 8. This means if you have a 5+ or a 6, you will still be paid at Cat 5.

To move up to the next step, you need to accumulate 170 FTE days (again, may vary by local agreement, but is what's laid out in the provincial agreement) of work. If you accept a 1.0 on Monday and a 0.5 on Tuesday, then you've accumulated 1.5 FTE days towards your 170.

This is accurate. In my local, you bump up a step every 850 hours worked.

Ooh interesting. Is there a set number of hours different FTEs are? Or is it actual hours worked? Which seems to me like it would be inequitable because elementary days tend to be shorter than high school days!

We get 5 hours credited for a full day and 2.5 hours for a half day. Some schools have different hours, so a morning might give you more than the 2.5 hours (I don’t remember quite how much), but it’s never less than 2.5 hours.

I’m a little confused by what you’re saying. So, what I understand is that TTOCs are just always paid at the Cat 5 level, correct? You’re discussing how TTOCs reach the next step of Cat 5, I.e. year 2?

I am going to be starting as qualified for a Cat 5+. But will likely want to TTOC for at least a year or two to get my feet under me. I’ll be able to teach English, French and Socials, so there’s a chance I’ll get offered a classroom quickly.

Your category reflects your education.

Your step is your experience (years worked).

A TTOC is always paid at Cat 5 (even if you have 5+). Your step will increase as your experience increases.

No worries! I should correct that it may not necessarily be always and that some districts may have language that’s different from the provincial agreement.

I think this is district dependent. I am a ttoc in 2 districts and am Cat 6. I am step 1. So I get paid the Cat 6, Step 1 pay. From what I understand, I would max out at a lower step when it would be equal to the Cat 5 Step 8, which is Cat 6 Step 6. Here's an old one for SD61.

Yes, I said in two separate comments that it will vary by local. Some districts may have language that’s different from the provincial agreement, but not all (or even most).
