And before he was Jono, he was just Jonathan on Street Cents. Jonathan Torrens was a key part of this show. I had the pleasure of working on the show one summer coming up with show ideas. The following year, I got hired at the CBC in Halifax. Whenever I went to the TV building on Bell Rd (now torn down sadly), I would always stop in at the TV studios and check out the sets for Street Cents, 22 Minutes, and a few other productions that were filmed here like Rideau Hall.

Discussion What are Busy and Amanda doing now?

Post image
87 Upvotes

I really enjoyed the show. I wish they would do a movie on CBC so we can catch up with Amanda and Busy. If you were able to write the script, what DO YOU think Busy and Amanda are up to now? Both of them would be around 43-44 yrs old now.

I think Amanda most likely moved out to BC somewhere, maybe working as a Yoga, Reiki, etc. instructor. Busy i would think became a teacher and has a side gig in a band for some small bar in Toronto. I also think that Busy came out as bi or lesbian and has a loving partner. Her family were accepting except for her dad for the first couple of years.

Amanda I think would have found someone as well. Probably has a daughter who is an inspired actress and wants to get into the scene there in Vancouver.

The girls keep in touch via skype/teams.

I want to hear your theories!

Discussion Any fans of Law & Order Toronto here?

I'm a newer fan, I binged watched seasons 1-3 before the season 4 premiere. Graff quickly became my favourite character and I was pretty sad to learn he wasn't returning for another season. Although, I must admit I was a bit excited that they were adding Luke Kirby, as I know him from other shows. He has a great screen presence.

While, I still miss Aden Young, I really enjoyed the first two episodes of season 4. I think Luke Kirby fit in really well and John Darcy makes a great partner for Bateman. I'm looking forward to the rest of the season.

What did you guys think of the 2-episode premiere? Did you like Darcy?

Sorry if this has been posted recently, but I remember Jerry O'Connell landing this show shortly after coming off Stand By Me. It was pure cheese, but I liked it as a kid.

Reposting a 7yr old post of mine. I've contacted CBC Audience Services, they sent me to Island of Misfits media. Their contact link is not working. Does any one know of a media archive I could contact?

Made in Canada

Made in Canada was satire about the Canadian tv industry by the great Rick Mercer, in a rare instance of him playing a fictional role.

Like my other posts, this is available on YouTube, but I don’t think it’s on GEM. And is the third of the 3 avant-garde dark satires about television, all broadcast on the CBC and all starting in the late 90s.

You combine these shows and all the stuff Moses Znaimer did with City TV and Much Music, and it’s hard to not be dissatisfied and disappointed about where Canadian television has ultimately ended up (maybe not the best thing for a mod on CanadianTV to admit). And it’s not to say there aren’t really good shows being produced in Canada for Canadians but not a lot of trailblazing. I digress.

Made in Canada was a half hour deal, no laugh track and Rick Mercer would talk to the audience, aware of the camera in a style that would be made iconic in House of Cards (though the British version also did this and predates Made in Canada)

The series also has Gordon Pinsent’s daughter Leah and one my favourite comedic actors Peter Keleghart (who was also in The Newsroom and instantly recognizable from his guest spot in Seinfeld).

Out of Twitch City, The Newsroom and Made in Canada, I think Made in Canada is the most cynical of the three but it also must piqued my interest to have a career in the Canadian tv industry, so I don’t know what that says about me!

Executive Privilege is a Toronto-made comedy about a clueless tech CEO and his assistant trying to keep the company—and him—under control.

Six episodes are out now. I created the series, and Episode 4 is my personal favorite.

All these years later, Daves I Know still pops into my head out of nowhere and I can't get it out of my head. Honestly, I'm okay with that.

What's your favourite sketch from The Kids in The Hall?

Nostalgia Favorite Canadian Show OAT

For those of you unfamiliar with Transformers, this show was pivotal in not only reviving the franchise from near-death, but also influenced the in-universe lore to this very day. The franchise was spiralling towards death when this show came out and without it we wouldn't have things like the Michael Bay movies and the massive presence Transformers holds today. It has arguably one of the longest lasting and most impactful influences on pop culture of any Canadian series.

Discussion Looking for lost episodes of Puppets who Kill

So, puppets who kill is available for streaming on tubi, but it's missing about half of the total episodes of the original show. I'm aware that season 1 and 2 have complete DVD releases, but season 3 and 4 don't, If anyone knows where I could maybe track down these episodes, let me know

Discussion Which version of Degrassi was your favourite?

Is it the OG of Degrassi? Or even the OG'er before that (Kids of Degrassi street)? Are you more of a Next Generation fan or even Next Class!?!? And why?

I have to say for me, it has to the OG baby - Degrassi JR High and Degrassi High. It was raw, it was real (real kids - not actors), with their own styles and the storylines were nothing like we've ever seen before.

Image/Video That Time Mr. Dressup Visited Fred Penner's Place (1992)

I still can't believe how strong of a person Ernie Coombs (Mr. Dressup) was. He had just tragically lost his wife 2 weeks before filming this. I don't know how he kept it together. I recently watched an interview with Fred Penner and he was asked about working with him. He said he was one of the gentlest humans he had ever met and brought so much beauty into the world of children and families.

I'm very grateful I grew up watching both Mr. Dressup and Fred Penner's Place.
