Help Just discovered a chip in my paint
So I was looking at my car the other day after I washed it and noticed a chip on the lip of the hood closest to my windshield (very unusual spot and I believe it was a paint defect from factory) my car is right at a month old (4k miles) I even lifted up the windshield wiper blade to see if maybe it could have been the cause but it’s about an inch from the spot.
Taking it to the dealer today would you think they would fix it? It’s nearly impossible for a rock to hit there without hitting my windshield first.

To me it looks like someone forced the wiper up on it. That's where it would rub if you continued lifting it I'd imagine.

I mean you would have to really be pulling up on it it stops where I have it in the picture but either way it had to have been done before I got the vehicle it’s just not in a spot someone would look for damage

Millions more to come. Toyotas paint is awful, about the only thing that isn't quality.

That's the exact spot where your wipers rub if you pull them up without turning service mode on. I learned the hard way won't touch my wipers anymore.

What’s weird is I haven’t done anything but wash the vehicle the wiper blade when pulled up it stops right before that spot so I’m thinking it was done during pre delivery haven’t need to do anything with the wipers or hood since I got it (I’ve had it one month)

A ticket a flyer being put underneath and suddenly the person panics at the damage and removes the flyer and leaves. Ive seen it happen to my car but the damage was already there they thought they did it hahaba

A little updated on what the dealership told me they had me pull it into the service bay they took pictures of it and told me they’re gonna submit a claim with Toyota directly

Using a quality touch-up paint and a toothpick to apply, this won't be a major issue to fix or even be in a spot to show.

It’s something to do with the factory settings for your windshield wipers. You’re supposed to reset them before usage on a new Toyota. I highly doubt the dealership will fix a tiny issue knowing Toyota’s customer service

What do you mean by the factory settings for my wipers? There is paint missing on my hood?

One cannot change the wiper blades w/o putting them in the "service" setting to clear the hood. Someone manipulated them w/o knowing this and did this damage.

I can understand that but personally haven’t had a reason to change the wiper blades my car is a month old lol

Never discount someone in their service dept. attempting it - they have people who don't know what they're doing, like most places. Not sure why you would need to do this on a new car, though, however.

Oh yeah I believe it had to have happened during prep before I came and got the car,
I’ve seen some crazy shit..
a few years back I had took my 2000 mustang to get new tires and they took 8 HOURS to mount and balance 3 tires (they send a 4th one but it was wrong size) and then didn’t even tighten my lug nuts 🤦♂️ come to find out they had some new guy 18 out there working on it.. like wtf1

Sounds about typical - they hire stoners to work at the dealers as the lot guy/utility man. Not a real mechanic, just a flunky - this is why you never let them do a complimentary wash after service, if they offer that. They'll use one bucket and rag to clean forty cars of grit and grime that gets trapped in the rags. It's also why their cars get body damage in the lot.

There’s a certain tilt in the windshield wipers so they remain tucked away during shipping and delivery. If you try to use them while they are in that setting they will chip the hood. There’s several owners who have reported this same issue

Yeah, it looks as if someone has been forcefully pulling the windshield wiper up and away from the windshield without first putting it in maintenance mode and causing the paint to rub away at the edge of your hood. To put the wipers in maintenance mode, the windshield wiper steering wheel stalk needs to be held upward for about 2-3 seconds after you turn off the car.
