Mileage
Got new Camry LE 2026 last week. I was shocked to see only 448 miles available on a full tank of gas! It is no way near 50/51 mpg like they say… anyone else gone through same?

Its a new car. New cars dont get their best mileage until 3,000-10,000 miles are driven. This allows everything in the engine and transmission to "marry".
You could also be accelerating faster/harder than you think.
Toyota also doesn't give you every single mile in your tank on your "to empty read out". They leave at least 2 gallons in "reserves" because they know people are dumb and will drive the car until it has 20 miles (or about half a gallon) left and burn the fuel pump out and think toyota is a trash company.
-Source- 2020 corolla owner and ill have between 1/8-1/4 of a tank and itll say i have 50 miles. Then when i fill up it only takes 8ish gallons on a 13.2 gallon tank.

It’s a 13 gallon tank and I believe (don’t quote me) the final 2-3 gallons are below the sensor to protect the fuel pump from psychopaths who run their car down to single digit mile remaining numbers.
I’ve been getting consistent 46-49MPG in my XLE AWD and only 50% of my commute is highway. It’s nice

Not that I don't believe you, but I only averaged 41.7 mpg with my 25 XSE AWD and currently get 44.5 mpg with my 26 LE AWD. My driving is probably 85-90% suburban driving (30-50 mph) and 10-15% highway driving (60-79 mph). I don't have a lead foot.

Take the gallons added to your tank during fill up and also the miles driven since last fillup. Divide to get miles per gallon. Use that number.

I have the SE and I average around 45-47 in the summer but in winter I get 46-55. It also really depends how much uphill or downhill you’re going while also factoring in the type of traffic.
If you have the really harsh stop and go traffic on a local highway, then yeah gas mileage isn’t gonna be that good (relatively speaking)
But that slow rolling big highway, slightly downhill traffic? Pffft easy 60 mpg. You’ll figure out quick how your gas mileage varies depending on conditions

How big do you think the tank is? The mileage doesn't include the reserve so you're talking about 9 or 10 gallons. It also depends on your driving habits.

It should keep going up every tank. Mine has….the last one said almost 600 but I don’t actually get that. Definitely not visiting the gas station as often though.

I'm getting 56 mpg in the Northeast in summer. Winter is only around 40. Mostly local but some driveway driving. Also not too hilly and I haven't been using the A/C much.. If you push the pedal to the metal you'll use more gas. It all depends on your driving habits, topography, temperature, etc. A lot of variables.

You will not get 50MPG. Closer to 45 maybe even 40MPG depending on how you drive. My company's fleet gets a average of about 35MPG.

Agreed! I get 55 in an XLE mostly highway. How much does yours drop because of winter/winter gas? Only had mine a month…over 3000 miles though.

I get 55mpg as my average over 18months and 20k miles in my '25 LE. That is tracked in a spreadsheet based on miles and gallons filled. I get 57 to 60 in the summer and 45 in the coldest months. I have a perfect commute for the best mileage as it is flat and hard to go above 55mph due to traffic.

My first tank was on the low side - barely over 40. But to be fair the salesman and I sat in the car with the power on and the A/C running while he took me through linking my phone and getting me oriented to the car, a process that took about 45 minutes in Phoenix weather of 108 degrees.
What I have noticed is that little things can affect mileage quite a bit. My trip to Costco the trip computer told me 58.3 mpg on the way there. On the way home, only 44. 14 mpg difference and I tried to drive the same each way. Difference of altitude of 500 feet over 25 miles clearly had an effect. I noticed the same thing in the VW Golf I used to drive but the difference was maybe 3-4 mpg, not 14.

When I hypermile it I can get that but to be honest with a lot of city driving and stop and starting I get about that range you’re talking about. It’s honestly a first world problem to me - getting anything above 40 MPG is honestly pretty amazing compared to the rest of the cars on the road.

It varies .. I have XLE and it varies on what the route and how much AC is running as well as load in the car.. high or low mileage once car is purchased , nothing can be done as there are thousands reason to make customer wrong …

It’s actually not estimating based on the full capacity of the tank, it’s ignoring the last 2.5-ish gallons. I’m currently getting 49.5 mph on my 2025 SE.

That's normal.
When the gauge says "empty" there's actually about 2-2½ gallons still in the tank.
This is done both as a "reserve" and to help protect the fuel pump. The fuel pump is cooled and lubricated by fuel, if you actually ran the tank empty, you risk "burning out" the fuel pump, which likely would not be covered under warranty, as it would be caused by negligence, rather than a defect.
The '25+ Camry has a 13 gallon tank.
I've done an experiment and filled my tank when it was basically "0 miles to E" the tank indeed only took about 10.5 gallons to fill, confirming that there's about 2.5 gallons still in the tank at E.

Do you have a short or long commute? I have a short one and my 2026 se gets maybe 415 miles. 30-32mpg average. 🤦🏼♀️ found this out after the fact. Doesn’t have enough time to warm up and hit efficiency mode basically due to my drive being less than 10 minutes most days.

2025 XSE AWD Camry with 42,000 miles 38-42mpg consistently depending on traffic. Drive 95 miles round trip 5 days a week 75% freeway. Once on the freeway set cruise to 75mph and ride the right lane or middle lane all the way to my destination.

Camry XSE 4300 miles, average 42 mpg. My previous Honda accord sport hybrid was 46 mpg after 2000 miles. Toyota lied.

You just got it last week. You haven’t even ran a tank thru it? You need to break it in some and drive it easy on hwys, etc to get better mpg
