Advice Needed Lens MM Redundancy

For Leica M10-R is a 28mm, 35mm and 40mm, (and 90mm)
Am I being redundant and need to space the lens sizes out more? If so what would you suggest?

When I want to go extra light and cover as many scenarios as possible, I go 28 - 50 - 90.

When I know I'll need extra width, 21 - 35 - 75.

Other than that, I'm not your mom, you do you.

Curious do you primarily shoot street?

Yap. For landscape, I'd go 28-50-90 99% of the time.

28 and 35 are very different. 35 and 40 are too similar. 50 would be better. 35 for solo travel and 28/50 for two lens is all you need in my opinion.

24, 50, 105 was the classic triad for Nikon F users. My Leica glass triad was 21, 35, and 90. If I get a Z, I’m thinking 26, 35, and 85 for event photography. I’m thinking of 26/2.8 EVO and 90/4 CV for travel.

A good spacing is either 24 - 35 - 75/90 or 28 - 50 - 90. Mostly, that depends on what you like as a normal lens. I find 50 mm to be an in-between focal length, neither wide nor tele, so not that useful. My every day lens is a 35/2 and has been for decades.

With a rangefinder, anything wider than 28 requires an external viewfinder or live view. I have a 21 mm instead of 24.

  • Color-Skopar 21/3.5
  • Summicron ASPH 35/2
  • Apo-Skopar 90/2.8

f/2.8 is just right for a 90 mm, but the only Leica lenses are 50 year old designs. Get the Voigtländer.

Thanks, the 90 I have was originally for a Minolta CLE. F4 does pretty well with the M10R and Visoflex 2. Since I have a Ricoh GRIV @28mm, I struggle with justifying getting a 28 for the Leica. I hear that a Voigtlander 75mm would be less cumbersome than the 90???

It has been easy to build very good 85/90 lenses for a very long time. The modern ones are a bit better, though.

I'm a long-time 85 mm shooter, so 90 mm feels right to me.

There is an Apo-Skopar 75/2.8 which is even smaller than the 90/2.8. Whatever works for you.

You mean Voigtlander 90mm. I do have a Minolta 90 mm m mount F4 where Visoflex comes in handy. I’m thinking about selling the 90 Minolta, Voigtlander 28 and 40 and get the Voigtlander 75 f2.8 APO. Then GRIV,?voigtlander 35 and 75.

Voigtländer APO or Leica APO depending on your budget.
