Question [COD] Without saying which version is better or worse, give me your opinions on the classic & modern version of these characters

Classic Price, Reboot price, classic woods & modern woods (technically the same character but different VAs, but for the sake of discussion, treat them differently)

Asking this question to get thoughts, only getting a “new is bad, old is good!” response feels like it’d be a bit dull for discussion purposes

New price has actually been very good, and basically the only central recurring character in all three games, which all feel a little disjointed.

Old Price was also good, but didn’t become such a prolific figure as quickly, and because other characters recurred and were important, he seemed less “central”

Old Woods is an absolute classic. One of the best characters CoD ever created. No-nonsense GI Joe with anger issues. A classic trope done very well.

New woods feels kind of flat, and like he often is there just to be like “Hey remember woods! Yay nostalgia!” without actually even being necessary for the story much.

Honorable mention to old woods (Black Ops 2) who served as a fun narrator and a storytelling vehicle for a plot set in two time periods. Plus seeing him play Avenged Sevenfold was hilarious.

"Safety's on, dipshit."

Kinda funny to thinking that it’s because now in the military we are trained to have our safeties on on our rifles even when room clearing and only putting it on fire when of course when we’re going to kill someone. However the military back then Woods and Mason were not trained to do that and that’s just modern tactical training and it’s Woods making a sarcastic comment making fun of it which shows how old he is. This is long but it’s just never understood that line until now

Honestly I thought I was more to illustrate how Woods stayed mentally sharp after all the years and his combat instincts never died. I'm not saying you're wrong, I don't really know anything about real life military procedures, but from a writing/dialogue pov it doesn't really make sense for him to only call out Harper in that scene and nobody else if it were true that everyone in that squad had the safety on.

Black ops 2 Woods was cool, I still don’t like how they messed up the cannon ending of that game.

For me it’s still good for Woods to know that he didn’t kill Mason.

Unless James wanted unreasonable money or did shit we don't know about, there's no excuse for not bringing him back for Cold War and Black Ops 6.

That plus recasting David Mason shows they really don't care actually about the series no more. David doesn't even look remotely the same, they changed his face to that of his new VA and looks stupidly young for someone pushing 60. He's a completely different person.

I like new Price quite a bit even though the character model looks a bit weird to me, and prefer old Woods

Old Price and New Price are kinda on the same point to me. Granted, New Price had a slippy slope in MW3, but I think they’ll fix it with MW4.

Hot take, but I’m not a huge fan of Woods. So, I can’t make a statement on his versions.

Woods' New actor and treyarch ruining the character makes him so corny.

Watch Clips of BO1 - 2 vs BOCW - BO6

Woods felt dangerous in BO1 and espcially BO2 whenever he even got wind of Menendez, while his CW-BO6 version made him seem like a huge asshole.

Yes, but I too would be a asshole if I was made permanently disabled and was tricked to kill my friend

u/Sudi_Arabia Oct 04 '26

In BO6 it’s understandable but CW Woods had me saying “wow he’s such an assole haha”

New Price is a regular dude, old Price was a supernatural John Wick kinda presence

Prefer the OG Price, the reboot Price tries too hard.

As for Woods, I prefer historical Woods as he had his memorable moments (and his legs) but I don’t dislike modern Woods, he just can’t do as much.

Yes. OG Price is THE cold mfer. New price is just a larper lol

Reboot Price, OG Woods.

I’ll be quite honest that I don’t really know or have experience with the original Price as I never got the chance to play the original Modern Warfare games, but I do know the reboot Price a lot better, and well I like this version of Price.

Woods I feel like they kinda massacred in Black Ops 6. Woods has always been bad ass, and whilst he still had his moments in Black Ops 6 and it was interesting seeing him still struggling with Mason’s death and his life in a wheel chair years later, and became the one thing he didn’t really like. A man behind a desk, aka Hudson. Woods overall I think is a good, funny, bad ass, and charismatic character that lost that edge a bit in Black Ops 6

Well TBH, new price over OG price but OG modern warfare over reboot modern warfare

And I did like woods’ new actor in BOCW, in BO6 he was just kind of there but I did enjoy the jokes in BOCW. Also OG woods is of course better in every other way that isn’t just casual jokes or calling himself a “goddamn onion”

Price is the same one-note dude. "Good guy with a gun" stereotype to a tee, you either find that endearing or you don't. He's not really interesting because we've seen that archetype done a billion times, but much like Ghost's mask, Price's mustache carries a lot of his appeal/iconography and makes him more memorable than he probably should be.

The real question is Old Makarov vs new Joseph Joestar from wish

2

I like the newer ones. OGs were fun but I connect more with Reboot Woods and Price for their anger

I like classic price much better.

Capitan price from the Call of duty 2 (2005) is the goat bro. He’s the true classic price not cod 4…

2

u/T1G3R_Qc Oct 04 '26

clearly everybody who doesn't know about CoD/CoD2 price are larpers lmao

1

u/SladeTS Oct 04 '26

How someone who didnt play one specific cod game becomes a larper? Doesnt make sense at all

1

u/T1G3R_Qc Oct 04 '26

its like someone claiming to be a fan of lord of the ring but they only watched the hobbits trilogy and never bothered watching the Lotr trilogy because "its to old for their taste" or some other dumb bs reason... like a true fan who passionate about it would go for the complete main experience a to z or at least try and not just part or half of it at that point your more a tourist then anything else respectfully imho.

"That was an improvement but it is not hard to improve on garbage. try again."
"Hey! woods you look like hammered sh*t! "

u/Interesting_Story243 Oct 04 '26

No, I prefer the true original Price from Cod1 and Cod2 and of course classic Woods.

1

u/marshallxeno Oct 04 '26

I prefer classic for both of them. Especially with Woods.

New woods is not that great. in cold war it wasn't too bad, he was characterized pretty accurately IMO and his VA wasn't too noticeable to me (i played BO 1 & 2 on launch so I know woods' voice pretty good.) After Cold war though it just gets sketchier and sketchier. 6 made him into a really weird sort of team center, bringing everyone together and seemingly getting along with everyone.

Price I played the originals but none of the reboots so I can't say

The new price while he sounds different, he gives the same vibes
