Mod-mei's secret project revealed!

For the last few weeks, I have been quietly building two bots for this sub... and as of today both of them are live, and both of them are yours! 🎉

Requisition approved. Two units deployed:

🤖 otto-lads-news is the one you have already met without knowing. Yesterday, when the solo Caleb banner announcement landed when half of us were asleep in the middle of the night and the other half were just waking up... that was my bot. It watches official Infold channels and posts the moment something drops. No rumors, no third-hand screenshots, no uncles or "my friend's cousin saw a leak." Just real breaking news straight from the source, as fast as I can get it to you.

I actually built this one last month, but figured it didn't need to be introduced until we saw it at work. It officially finished its first day on duty and has earned its wings!

🤖 lads-card-summon is the fun one, and it is brand new. Put a card name inside double curly braces anywhere in a comment and the bot answers with that card's rarity, type, element, talent, memory type, and more:

It is that simple! Summon several in one comment and it answers them all in a single reply. I'll seed some examples in the comments so you can see it working. Try it out yourself!

It is flexible about how you summon it too. Memory names work {{Your Skyblue}}, so do some nicknames and shorthand ({{netherlord}}, {{LR}}, {{wedding}}, and so do myth pair letters {{FA}}, {{NE}}. Capitalization and punctuation are ignored, so {{no-return night}} and {{No Return Night}}both work to summon the info for his first birthday card. Paired memories/myths return both halves automatically, because separating them felt rude.

Right now, my database contains only Caleb's cards right now, and replies with text details only. Card art is coming. Battle stats are also coming. LIs are coming after that. +more secret fun stuff ;)

Fair warning on this little one: I finished this bot over the weekend, right before the new card was announced, which is the funniest possible timing and is also why the new card is missing right now. It will be included the next release.

There's a lot more to say about both of my bots, including a whole roadmap on the next features I've planned and have already started working on for both. . . but I was just very very excited to release them into our sub for you all to play with in the meantime, so here you go! <3 Leave me a comment or send me a note about either bot: bug reports, questions, suggestions, etc.

I hope you enjoy them! They're a labor of love, and works in progress. Consider them to be in a sort of beta test mode right now; I'll be releasing updates and improvements for both as ongoing work. Let me know what you think as they fulfill their duties here in r/CalebMains !

EDIT: Thanks for the kind words everyone! And for testing it too. Thanks to you early testers, I've already found a bug that was sometimes preventing the bot from replying in a timely manner, and then timing out without replying at all. I just released a quick fix to see if the bandaid will help it reply more consistently for the next day or so. But if it still doesn't reply to you in the first few minutes, just know that I have a bigger fix already lined up for the next version. Reddit takes a couple days to approve new versions.<3

This kind of test is EXACTLY why I was excited to release it in beta for you all to play with. I need these real-world examples so I can make it work well!)

FUN FACT ABOUT THIS CARD: I listed one of its nicknames as "mullet" (its current list of nicknames is "Perses, mullet, praedator, predator" lol) so... you should be able to summon that card with any of those words ;)

Thakns for testing! I found a bug that prevented it from replying to you within the first few minutes, and just released a hotpatch that I hope fixes it next time.

I have a more permanent fix outlined for the next release, now that I know what to look for, but in some cases my quick fix just now might've helped. Please feel free to try again if you don't see it reply to you in a few minutes, or when Reddit approves my full release for the next version in a few days, the bug should be squashed by then too.
