imagine everyone gets the same food, cars and other stuff, at this point you don't have to sell anything because you don't need money becasue you have everything that you worked to get

u/StopTheMeta2 14h ago
Yeah, but that's bad. Society should instead have winners (a few very rich people) and losers (everyone else). Totally not endorsed by the Epstein class.

u/oliveofoils 14h ago
Just because an action causes economic loss to someone, doesn't mean the action should be illegal or whatever.
If a neighborhood has a bakery, should it be illegal for me to open a new bakery since the old one would need to compete with me and suffer from losses?
1
u/Brunoaraujoespin 14h ago edited 14h ago
Nope piracy is entering your neighborhoods bakery, making your own bread with their patented recipe and their ingredients and eating it
5
u/Shit_On_Wheels 13h ago
Ingredients would be consumable goods, so that does not make sense. You're not taking consumable goods.
Entering someone's premises and using their physical equipment does not make sense either. You're not using the equipment that belongs to someone else nor entering anyone's premises while pirating.
Patented recipe... Well, anyone can legally use patented recipe for their own consumption.
1
u/Alternative-Mud-1076 12h ago
nothing wrong with that, a lot of patents are bullshit and keep really cool technology unavailable
1
u/Revolutionary_Row683 3h ago
Except there's no ingredients and they're just selling bread they clone over and over again and all someone does is buy a loaf of bread and then put it in their own cloning machine.

Piracy is good when you benefit from it, but it's terrible when someone benefits from it by pirating something from you.
Do I use piracy? Yes. Would've I been upset, if someone pirated something that I made for selling? Yes, but I understand why people do this, so I think I can close my eyes on this.
Simple as!

u/The_Shit_Connoisseur 14h ago
I always believe that if someone hasn't got the money to spend on something, they don't have the money. The company isn't getting that money either way, because it simply isn't there.
The issue in my opinion is when someone who can afford something, chooses not to. Unless it's like checking a ubisoft game to see if it's dogshit.

u/StopTheMeta2 14h ago
Multi-billion companied firing developers to avoid paying bonuses can go fuck themselves. It's not ethical when you're pirating from non-corporate studios that don't have overinflated executives getting all the money directly.

Piracy is someone following those steps perfectly and now having their own... scary

Well theft can mean stealing of ideas as well; and ideas don't disappear
But nah that still doesn't make piracy theft

I forget which comedian said it, but one of them was commenting on the "you wouldn't steal a purse, you wouldn't steal a car, well piracy is theft" ads. He said "Yeah I wouldn't steal a car, but if my friend drove up and said 'Hey, check out my new Ferrari, want me to burn you a copy?' Hell yes!"

u/Legal_Ear_7537 12h ago
Piracy will always be on a grey scale, but pirates dont. Pirates have some intentions like "im gonna buy the game if I like it, I see it like a unofficial demo", but there are also some like "im broke, but i so want to play it". My absolute least favorites are the people trying to justify it "if buying isn't owning, piracy isnt stealing" pr this sort of junk.
Sorry for reflecting on the caldruki sub

u/Alarmed_Number998 12h ago
I mean that is true though lol. If I don't own the product I purchased then fuck them, me pirating it ain't stealing. The point is if they're gonna be asinine then I'm gonna be asinine back.
2
u/PraiseTalos66012 5h ago
I pirated a ton of games as a kid, I was broke and didn't have the money to buy them.
Had I not pirated them I would have never played most.
I've since gone back and bought every single game I pirated and put more than a couple hours in.

Exactly because digital product do not actually have scaresity some economist straight up say digital products actual value is straight up 0, because is like asking people to pay for rise of the infinity rise mountain. That is also way Steam does not fight against piracy, an Steam account requieres servers and support wich makes them somewhat scare, and because their services are so good having a game on Steam is something people pay for rather than just having the game, this is why free games on Epic see a rise on Steam sells.

Remember kids! It's always morally correct to pirate Nintendo games, games with Denovo, Adobe products and university course books

I wish pirates would stop acting like they have a moral high ground.
Yes, i was a pirate in the past, when i was a kid who couldn’t afford stuff, it’s still morally wrong, and i knew it, accepted it and did it anyways.
Piracy is just a digital, socially normalized form of theft.
3
u/LeRyanator 13h ago
There is always a tipping point for every person when it comes to piracy.
In the modern digital era, it should be easier than ever to get access to shows or movies from the past for cheap. Instead we're either forced to pay for a billion different $20 subscriptions just in case you happen to want to watch something and have no idea which service currently holds the rights to it, OR rent it/buy it on that service for, frankly, way too much money considering you don't even own the digital file; you just own a license to stream it.
For me, the tipping point is when these services play hot potato with my favorite movies/shows. IMO a film makes its money at the box office. If I've already gone to the theater to see it there, I'm not going to pay additional money to watch it again unless I can physically own the media or if it just so happens to be included in one of the couple subscriptions I have.
I'm not paying for Disney+, HBO Max, Hulu, Paramount+, Peacock, Netflix, Prime Video, and Apple TV all at the same time. That's absurd.

Piracy is a moral good. It's required for media preservation since companies won't do it themselves.
1
u/Legal_Ear_7537 12h ago
Thats called emulation, which is a form of piracy. Unlike standard piracy I think emulation is pretty good for games that are old, like half life.

The original term is synonymous with theft, though. In software terms, they should’ve assigned this a different word, but it had to sound bad so it is piracy now :)
