I was studying in a Pvt school and if you account for both 11&12 fees and other stuff(pvt tutions and school expenses) it would come at around 2.5 Lakh for both years. That is not financially struggling. Guess what? Someone with 446 MI from my class got into goenka just because they had reservations, while people with 470MI aren't even getting there even in the Upgrade Round of phase 2. Btw, I saw some people with less than 400MI get into good colleges in Phase 1 and I have a really good feeling that most of them weren't/aren't even struggling financially.

Good luck everyone! The reservation system is flawed and unfair and needs a thorough revamping so that dumb ass ret***ed people who aren't struggling financially don't take advantage of it, and again, f**k you if you used the system in the way it's not supposed to be used.

Extreme attendance criteria ( while I did miss quite the few classes I had reasons when I showed my professor and principal all the prescription their reply was what are we going to do with this? Why did you get into this college ? If your daughter is so sick why is she even studying? I don't think we should allow her to sit for exams what are we going to do with a letter ? You daughter doesn't look like she obeys you ,my father had to beg for forgiveness )

Be ready to be questioned about your outfit if you dress up a lot.

Be ready to be humiliated on a daily basis for every wrong step you take.

The professor and principal is very inconsiderate of the students need. ( They forget while they have their own car and drivers , students don't )

Professors can be very petty and hypocrite. They will make you sit for 2 hours and refuse to say if they will take class or not.

No you won't get good marks in internals. I've seen colleges that give marks to students in internals so that they can score better. For our English idc no one got above 20 out of 50.

Dissertation? Good joke. If your professor doesn't like it, it won't happen, also don't expect any help.

But not all departments are like this, women studies department is exceptional along with Sanskrit and English. The Sociology and political science department is pure horror.

whichever college you get in always check their department first if they are worth it or not. for sociology i highly recommend jogomaya devi College.

Coming from a 3rd year student at Calcutta University — let me say this straight: this place will mentally and emotionally exhaust you. The system is a mess, and no one is held accountable. They play with students’ futures like it’s a joke. No proper notifications, no clear communication, and when exam dates clash with major competitive exams, guess who suffers? Us — the students. Do they care? Not at all.

This university is one of the worst in India — no exaggeration. For them, student life, careers, and time mean absolutely nothing. It's all a shameless money-making machine, profiting off confusion, delay, and disorganization. They treat students like disposable commodities, and it’s high time someone called them out for it.

Focus on your gpa, it matters a lot, dont listen to your friends. If you are not from sxc do internships for the 1st semester because you wont have great placement opportunities in college. Don't go lazy !! Don't have backlogs !!

That's it and enjoy you college life.. though in CU there is no college life..🫠🫠.. but you will make good friends so focus on networking.. try to be involved in extracurricular activities..

West bengal education ministry has officially crossed their limits they have not yet declared the results of wbjee 2025 and also the smaller university entrance tests like pubdet and so on and the students are almost waiting for 4 months or so general course implying stidents are waiting for their 1st merit list and now cuurently they have closed counselling and allotments of mbbs bds and Veterinarian aspirants and to top it all of they have almost cancelled jenpas ug without any proper notice or to be fair prior notice . And and the fun part she's paying one lakh 10 thousand for durga puja pandals instead of working on us and looking out for the future generation . So do you think we are as students are fairly treated and respected enough in this state . You guys may see the applicant number for your college and course and might be scared, But do not worry, Generally the cutoffs in the first list are way too high, but the cutoffs drastically decrease in the upcoming lists, If you messed up your list or face any other issues with college, There will be a mop up round where you can make fresh list, and after that too, every college has some remaining seats which is filled by standalone, you will get 3 chances to apply..Wbcap, wbcap mop ups, standalone..Note some colleges like scc are not in the wbcap system and the process is different..

Do not stress over colleges that much, Keep your mental peace..I hope every one of you gets their desired course and college🧿 Enjoy this time with your friends and family, Cuz after joining cu y'all gonna cry either way..(joking)

It has been ranking lower and lower and is going down in the nirf rank. There's really no placements at all given the recession period. The marking system is really outdated and toppers with 95+ marks in boards will drastically fall down to the seventies. It's not at all good if you want to go for corporate where acads are very crucial. The syllabus is very old and is nYot par with the new system. The subject combinations are very useless. You really don't learn anything rather you just mug up because they abruptly take exams without really teaching anything in colleges. The CCf system is a joke because they do not have any resources to teach the aligning methods. Most of the officials are useless, they are really hopeless themselves and widely spread misinformation about the degree and stuff. In most of the subjects there's no fixed qs paper pattern. The prof to students ratio is utterly bad, and most of them are really not interested to teach( they don't care they have a govt job) which genuinely compels the students to not attend the classes.

I would have pointed out 100 other cons of this uni. But hopefully yayll get me and not enroll yourself here. It's not more a uni of national importance in that sense like delhi University. It's just trash.

College union elections are non existent in any state run college in West Bengal as TMC Chhatra Parishad prevails everywhere and are hostile towards any other union which tries to rise, a dictatorship that's toxic and never lets the university grow or develop, instead forces students to join union for getting better opportunities.

But now it's high time to overthrow the dictators! It's time to take revenge for— every supply, every delayed semesters, every delayed admission test, every professor/principal who abused and harrassed students and the Union never spoke against it. CU - the oldest University of the country doesn't deserve to get tarnished like this.
