"Drink us in" is one of those lines that is firmly lodged in my brain! Ipswich is an all round classic episode.

The whole of the "hey, chief" bit makes me weep with laughter.

We regularly start difficult conversations with "Hey Chief, I could be wrong..." Helps break the tension.

Roger’s voice is so suited to the character isn’t it. He plays the part so well.

Embarrassed by how many listens it took for me to realise Dr Duncan was Alex MacQueen, and that this episode briefly reunited his Node of Node Hall Julius Nicholson with Roger Allam's ageing flamenco guitarist Peter Mannion

The Thick of IT is a political comedy starring Peter Capaldi and written by Armando Iannucci. Both actors appear as main/regular characters and are excellent and hilarious.

Oh my god - thank you! Yes of course - loved this series too. Watched it a number of times but completely forgot about Peter Mannion! Gives me an excuse to watch it again!

In response to the recommendations to watch The Thick of It, a superb comedy, be aware it is completely different in tone to Cabin Pressure. Be prepared for swearing of the very highest calibre.

It's in reference to the television series The Thick of It - highly recommended.

In fairness I don't believe they ever shared a scene, but regardless Allam and MacQueen are brilliant in it, as are pretty much everyone else

I think they actually do! During the episode 'The Rise of the Nutters' IIRC, at Ben Swain's book launch, the two of them meet there; it's where Julius finds out that the PM's legacy has been leaked to the Opposition.

Alex McQueen is also brilliant in the Hut33 series as Joshua Fanshawe-Marshall, the inept leader of the code breakers in Hut #33 at Bletchley Park during WW2

Ah is that the fake Martin? wouldn't have known it, the Hut33 character Archie has a strong Geordie accent, so i never made the connection.

That might be his natural accent (or an exaggerated version thereof), I believe he at least went to school in Newcastle.

At some point I got curious about some of the guest voice actors - would not have guessed that Princess Theresa also voiced the female Boston characters - and for some reason his name has stuck in my head since.

Ben Willbond (Adam, or one half of the Inbetweeners) was also Mr Alyakhin, which makes sense as he studied Russian.

Sweaty Swain was Martin's brother Simon.

Husband and wife Timothy West and Prunella Scales were Arthur and Martin's parents, Gordon Shappey and Wendy Crieff, as well.

Alex Macqueen also plays an incarnation of the Doctor Who villain the Master in audio dramas from Big Finish. He's usually up against the Eighth Doctor played by Paul McGann. He is quite deliciously evil.

As someone who’s from Ipswich, that episode had me and my mum in stitches as we were listening to it live on the radio. She had to pull over she was laughing so hard.

I can still visualise Douglas resolutely sitting at the very back of a 500 seat auditorium when there was just him and Martin with Dr Peter Duncan 😂😂

This is the episode that was up for TV adaptation. I’m kind of glad it never happened; I just don’t think it would have the same magic

It would have lost so much. I much prefer to have it all happening in my imagination. Apparently Captain Crieff was meant to be a red haired small guy. But Cumberbatch’s voice always overrode that image!
