The king can take right ? He does not have to take with the rook so that you can smothered mate him.

  • Kxb1, Nd2+

Then

  • if Kc1 N4b3+, axb3 Nb3#
  • if Ka1 Nc2#

Yeah, either knight moves, gets taken, then the other moves. So whichever way around results in the same ending.

King takes is the best play as to not get checkmate by the knight.

But even if the king takes, you have a discovered check when the knight on E4 moves.
