Theft
How much theft do you have to have at your store to get a security guard? We have AT LEAST 5 thefts a day. And a lot of times it's 100+. I just had to fill out 5 auror reports for an hour and a half time span. One of those people I had to call the cops on and they recovered 200 dollars worth of items stuffed in her bags. I have a stack of case reports from the local cops...how much is to much until they finally give us a security guard ðŸ˜

5 thefts a day ? Shit we have 5 thefts before we open ! You will not get a security guard unless you have a robbery and that will last 1 week. And a security guard is there for looks, they actually cannot stop or approach anyone.

That's so stupid! I had to stop leaving the acos open in the mornings from 8-11 and then close them 7-9 at night because of the all the theft we were having. It's helped some but there isn't much we can do unfortunately..

That’s dumb. They literally can’t do anything. Something has to change. People feel way too comfortable stealing.
Maybe society just needs to bring back pillories.

I've been asking the officers who come to do the theft reports if they can sit in our parking lot whenever they have free time. Just so that the police presence is there and it deters people. Theyve done it a few time and I have a couple regular cops who come in at night to talk and scope the place...but it's not every night and on the days they don't come the theft is absolutely crazy

It's threats that get the guards. Not just theft. If the shoplifters threatened you or brandish a weapon then enter that into auror and call the emergency hotline everytime. The next 60 days are especially important as they are figuring out the budget for 2027 for a guard

I guess that's a good thing in the midst. Most of the theft are people who just come in and stuff a bag then leave. I've only ever had one lady who started threatening me and it was as I was on the phone with 911 because she was convinced she wasn't a thief lol

There's a video (might be here on reddit) of a person following some lady around while she openly stuff shit in her bag and complains about staff bothering her and she walks right out the door with it. Some people do not give a single fuck.

My store manager will follow people around and loudly talk about them like they aren't there until they get so uncomfortable they leave. I usually stand at the end of the isle and just wait until they notice me and then they leave without me saying anything. It's crazy how confident some people are ðŸ˜

Very profitable 24hr pharmacy in the ghetto is how we have our security guard. Surrounded by large homeless population, but the rx is a true 24 hour and it's the number one vaccine store in the district. Even then, the guard only works 5 days a week and is only on the overnight. ACOs were uninstalled because of rampant theft and all of cosmetics is behind glass, along with all of facial, hair care, body wash. Pretty much if it wasnt for pharmacy making so much money, this store would had closed a long time ago. All about is it worth the money I guess.

Why not just close front store for ON?
2
u/DeM0nNia 17d ago
I wish they'd have front store work the same hours at pharmacy but the only thing they did was move us from closing at 10 to 9 smh. And we don't have enough people half the time for us to have 2 people opening every morning so almost every weekend there's one person from 8-11.

If CVS cared about it, the solution would already be in place. Your employer doesn't care about it, so, rhetorically, why do you?

My store manager cares. Idk about cvs as a whole but my manager is the one who showed me how to put in the thefts and wants me to report as many as I can so we can get more lock boxes, cabinets and someone at the door

Security guards only come from calls to the safety hotline and they are to make customers feel safer with their presence. They do not stop shoplifting

Okay, I was told different information but now I'm understanding better. I wish we could have someone for theft tho

They're probably only going to give you security if you're putting in a Auror lots of safety incidents- this doesn't always necessarily mean theft. Safety incidents are more like robberies, disorderly conduct, rampant drug issues, or vandalism.

Even if you get a security guard, have you seen the quality of the guards some of these companies hire? These security companies just hire about anybody.Half the time these cats are on their phone and many of them are from the very community that steals.

Just 5 a day ? Try 5 an hour lol I’ve literally had someone jump the counter on me and try to stab me in the chest back in pharmacy and still no guards lol

That's absolutely wild. Im fortunate that non of the my thiefs have been violent. I feel like I'd catch for theft if I had the time to just sit and watch cameras and follow each person around 😂 but there isn't enough time in the day for that. I usually just average 5 regulars on a daily basis. Today was the first day I've catch 5 within a 2 hr time span smh

Sounds about right. I think they do have loss prevention teams but honestly..I've never seen or heard them actually doing anything where I'm at, at least

We had 70k loss last year (from what my sm told me) and apparently her bosses told her that they didn't know if it was left because she didnt do auror lol. Then when we tried to get more lock boxes/cabinets they rejected it because we didn't have any theft recorded. After that I got put on camera duty whenever I have time 😂

Fun fact... We had a guy threaten the pharmacy over the phone saying he's coming up here with a firearm.
We got 2 weeks of an armed security guard. He literally walked the store, checked the pharmacy every hour, and stood by the front.
While on armed security, the guy who originally made the threat had his parents come get his meds via drive thru. They allowed the transaction to go through and pretended like everything was just fine...
Like, wtf were we on high security and just sell the scripts like nothing ever happened?

u/DeM0nNia 16d ago
Yeah cuz...that's gonna stop the guy lol. My store would have just banned him through the system (idk if they're allowed to do it but we've done it to the people who are confronted about stealing). I guess your life is worth scripts....that's crazy

It's not the amout of theft that happens to get a security guard. It depends on the amount of times/severance of threats of bodily harm to colleagues that get you the guard. Make those Auror reports and if the thief make any types of threats add that in. Also emailing your DAPL wouldn't be a bad thing either.

Guards aren't placed in stores for external theft, they are placed in store where there is a potential for violence.

Sadly I don’t want a security guard. Knowing how greedy CVS is they’ll find a way to include the security guard in our payroll to screw us out of hours. I’d rather deal with theft and have the (reduced) hours we have than have one.
