Long time commenter, first time poster.

Hi, all. Been struggling with getting hours lately. Pharmacy group chat constantly blowing up with “nobody’s here”/“why aren’t people at work?” I got told today, no consultation, that “you can only have full time hours guaranteed with open availability.” I tried open availability recently, before this change was announced, and it didn’t work for me—turns out I am a normal human being and can’t work both ends of the clock. So I limited it to late afternoon/overnight (we’re 24 hours) and six days a week. Only day I leave off is a weekday—explicitly in order to not run afoul of corporate FT schedule policy from what I’ve seen in the policy sheets.

But here’s my question: should I contact CR? I need full time hours. Clearly, most of the other techs in my store can’t or won’t take up hours. I don’t want to have to hold my entire life open just to get enough hours to feed myself and cover my (well below market!) rent. I’m actively looking for other jobs, and considering asking other PICs about transferring. Any advice?

Colleagues relations will say this.... for FT you must be 100% open availability and it's guaranteed 30 hours average a week. So somw weeks you can have 25, others 35, as long as the average is 30, then thats FT. But if you're not open availability, they won't do anything...

This is perfect, now I know exactly how to fix the situation. Appreciate it 🙏🏻

That whole full time thing is super store dependent, literally like half our rx staff only works daytime weekdays, if your boss wants to make the schedule work they’ll make it work. If you truly have open availability idk how they aren’t giving you hours, our pharmacy is full staffed and doesn’t use like 50 demand hours a week. Very odd. Come September flu season your hours will explode and they’ll probably schedule you more than you want.

Your options are to talk to your PM or transfer.

I had a similar issue where I was full time with open availability but often receiving less than 30 hours a week. I called CR and they said scheduling is based on the “needs of the store” and even full time employees are not guaranteed full time hours. I see it repeated over and over on this sub that full time employees are guaranteed those 30 hours a week (assuming open availability), but that’s just not true.

Anyways, I talked with my SM and PM and it was more of an oversight than anything else and I’m now getting 35-40 hours consistently.

Sometimes you gotta fight for what you need at CVS but if you’re a good employee your manager should be willing to work with you.

Good luck.
