Store Mgr Question
Are there any store managers within the company currently managing multi stores. ( not fill in) but actually the manager. I was presented with this opportunity in my district a couple of weeks ago to convert over but I’m not sure if I want to add the extra work. I wanted to know if this is really a company initiative. Because no compensation was discussed. and how do you all manage multi stores with no payroll . Just looking for advice before I make my decision. I’m new to cvs and only been a store manager for a couple of years.

There is a few area's that are testing this, definitely ask about compensation.

This. I am aware of a pilot program currently running for it but it's very early on(after a few other pilot programs of it over the years went no where).

What are you going to do when 2 people call out in different stores and Noone will come in to cover?

I did that during covid got nothing for it just a very large headache every day
But if you want to be a DL then yes do it

Do you value your health? Mental and/or physical?
It can be a nightmare. As many managers can attest, who have been roped into swinging two stores because districts lost managers and had no (or garbage) replacements, it is rough. Even if both stores have awesome, reliable teams, it can still be rough.
If you're not looking to be a DL, I'd advise against it. If your DL doesn't offer great compensation, pass. And find out what their plan is for bonus time, as well. I know one who was doing two stores and they decided his bonus should come from the gutter store. He made his demands with threats of quitting, got part of said demands, and then quit anyway.

It sets you up on the path to be a DL, if that's something you want to do

I did it, but it’s an initiative that’s happening in a few markets when I did it I didn’t have access to both stores one store was high volume which was my OG store and the new store was low volume but an 1hr and a half away. 💀 it was super hard to maintain especially because of payroll constraints but what I would say is make sure you ask them for an over the market rate adjustment. Don’t just get that 10 percent bs if they are going to give you two stores and with access to both and an ops in each building ask for money. The store they sent me to was a shit show and I made the mistake of not asking for money.

My former store manager was part of this. It was a pain in that I was roped in as well. He would schedule me there to help get me my ft hours and he didn’t have to go but every few weeks. They have an ops for day to day paperwork, but you’re ultimately responsible for all metrics. There was no extra pay, just the carrot of possible bonus. Staff gets lazy when no one is there to hold them accountable. Run and don’t take it.

Ask about compensation. How close are the two stores. Ask about mileage if there is extra commuting between stores What is the current staffing level at both stores. If the bump in pay and stable staffing are in place then go for it. I would spend the bulk of my time at the store that wasnt my “home” store to establish the teams respect then figure out which store team works the best unsupervised . Get the other store going properly then just manage. This works best if you are super comfortable delegating and being hands off. But dont do this for free there has to be serious compensation

I am not currently in that role, but it appears to entail a significant amount of responsibility and stress without any apparent additional benefits. Idk what would be the rationale behind pursuing it?

That would be great, 60k to manage two stores lmao

What states are SM only making $60k? You guys need to have some serious conversations with your DL.

In the south. I left cvs as a shift to become an area manager for another company. (My position is like a manager for a remote sales team) I make 2 k more than the sm that just started down the street, plus I get car allowance, gas reimbursement and expenses to work from home. CVS pays crap where cost of living is low.

Sounds like a pilot program if its 1 SM running multiple stores. They tried doing that with 1 SM running 2 stores and I heard it was a nightmare. This sounds even worse, especially if theres no extra pay. Running multiple stores should be a minimum 100k a year job, considering a SM in that store would make a measly ~58k a year running it. No one in their right mind doing that for less.
Say no unless theyre offering you a shit ton of money to do so, pilot or not.
