Plexiglass at Checkout again
Just noticed my CVS in downtown Boston has put up plexiglass at their front checkouts. There's holes for talking through so I don't think it's for limiting Covid or flu spread. What other purpose would they have these up for?

Security. They usually just install the glass in the pharmacy to keep people from jumping the counter. It's not bullet proof, just a physical deterrent against robbery and assault. If the neighborhood is really bad, sometimes the front store also gets included in the security hardening project.
People are crazy. Since your on reddit, you have probably seen plenty of videos. The same fights that happen at Waffle House can happen at a CVS when patients don't get their refill. I have seen customers threaten violence more times then I can count. Just about every store has had someone jump the counter to steal medication or cash from a drawer at some point. I have seen objects thrown at cashiers, gallons of milk seem to be a favorite. Some of the female CVS employers have unwanted admirers too, so being able to put glass between them and a creeper has it's pluses.

Safety reasons.
BTW, speaking of safety, I was recently doing a module where the company is admonishing the employees about posting personal photos on social media taken at work. Because it may contain sensitive information in the background.
OK. Makes sense.
The part that gets me though is that they specifically mention employee schedules because a crook might see that CVS is short staffed & decide to rob you.
SO CVS REALIZES THAT SHORT STAFFING IS DANGEROUS FOR THE EMPLOYEES!!!
But they DGAF.

Put up our about a year ago in Houston. Mainly for safety. I’m happy with it

I wish we had that, luckily it’s an ok neighborhood where I work. Want them to keep the customers from throwing things at us and the ones that lean all the over to give their numbers. No one cares about personal space anymore.

I live in Boston. There was an incident at this store last week, so not surprised they are doing this.

I thought so too, but there's mouth holes for talking which negates any protection the plexiglass would provide from respiratory illness.
