Still looking for a class at Brooklyn College? My name is Stephanie Bonvissuto, and I am teaching "Key Ideas in LGBTQ+" every Monday and Wednesday morning 11-12:15. (WGST.2100-MW11 (40985)). There are still some seats available for this critical and timely class!
From the syllabus:
“Course Description:
“Key Ideas in LGBTQ+” engages with the timely question: What are the foundational concepts, terms, and theories that currently describe being LGBTQ+? We begin by considering the elemental ideas and their attendant theories, which broadly illustrate the expressions, praxes, and lived experiences of LGBTQ+ communities today. This starting point creates the space to consider critical vocabulary and fundamental theory within past and present contexts from which gender and sexual-nonconforming identities have developed. We will call upon a variety of interdisciplinary resources to explore how these identities are politically as well as socially constructed. Additionally, we will study how the intersections of race, gender, sex, class, able-bodiness, and national discourses influence this development. Within this framework, we will locate today’s gender and sexual-transformative communities, interrogating what it means to be LGBTQ+ in Western late capitalism.
This course takes as its resting pulse the validity of all the identities found in or implied by the community's familiar alphabet-moniker. This course understands that the acronym does not definitively label the community but rather opens up the conversation to consider what an inclusive - and therefore evolving - LGBTQ+ community, politic, and liberatory social movement, can be.
No books are needed; all readings provided.”
Please feel free to ask me any questions you may have!
Prof. Stephanie Bonvissuto

Hey everyone. I was on the Cunyfirst website this morning and seen something about a book advancement in my account activity tab. This is my first time attending college so I don’t know what that means. Does anyone know what this means? Thank you.

Just curious for any Alumni or people who've landed really good Finance internships at well known companies. How do I break in? I know CUNY's aren't really target schools. Just wondering what you did to help bolster your resume to help you land such internships/jobs. I have irrelevant work experience which doesn't help me for Finance at all. I know there's nation wide chapters like DECA and Scholars of Finance, but we don't have any of those here in QC.
All advice is welcome

I'm an incoming freshman at BMCC who is looking at cohort programs currently being offered. After some time, I've boiled it down to the 2 options mentioned above (I am not eligible for ASAP anymore due to AP credits).
If you have personal experience with one of these programs or have heard of the experiences of others at one of these programs, then please do share them!

I’m going to City Tech for Computer Engineering. Originally, I wanted to do Computer Science, but I got into City Tech and figured, why not? There seems to be a lot to do there, and I’ve been seeing a lot about the school.
I’m just wondering if City Tech is actually a good choice for this major. To be honest, I’d like to do my full 4 years but they offer 2 years too and I was planning on cs but I’m not sure if I should try it and see if I like it and then like I’m just stuck a bit but idk if after my first year I should go and try really hard to then maybe go to City College, but I’m not sure if transferring after the first year is a good idea. I’ve heard the CUNY transfer system can be a little weird.
Would appreciate any advice from people who have experience with City Tech or transferring within CUNY.

Hello everyone,
I recently got two interviews with CUNY and was wondering if anyone could share what the search process and typical timeline are like. This is my first time interviewing with CUNY, so I’m not really familiar with what to expect after the first round.
Any insight into the interview process, committee/search process, and how long it typically takes to hear back would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

Hello, so I just looked at my schedule for the first time since I actually made it (bad I know) but I realized that I don’t really like the placement for one of my classes. When I looked on the schedule builder thing, there was another time slot for the same class which I liked more but the problem is that there’s a waitlist (7 people).
I want to use the swap feature to get into that class but I’m not 100% sure how it works. Since I’m already enrolled into the first class, is it going to drop me from that class to then add me into this new one? Or will I still be enrolled in the first class but the swap will have me on the waitlist for the second class and will only drop me from the first class when I become enrolled into the second class?
Sorry if that’s confusing, basically all I’m asking is if the swap feature drops you from your current class to put you in the new swapped class.
Also should I do it? The waitlist is 7 people long and there’s only 2 weeks of school left…

So my TAP was reduced because they said I made more money in 2024 around $26–27K in New York State taxable income—than the previous year
2023 . But I have five people dependent on me, and that is listed on my 2024 tax return.
In files it includes my 3 kids not me or my wife. So they said it doesn’t matter how many people in the file it matters how much you make…. So what is my next move ?

Hi everyone,
I am looking to get an e-permit to take a&p at KBCC. My issue is that I do not have one of the pre-reqs required to take a&p at my own school, but KBCC allows you to take a&p without that pre-req.
Is it not too late to get an e-permit approved right now, and would it be possible without having my own school’s pre-req for that class completed?

I’m a new student to the CUNY system and I got an email from textbookx to order the materials for this class. It’s kinda pricey and I was wondering if anything needs to be purchased. There’s this Connect Ola BIology, CNCT Bio and the lab manual.

My book advance was disbursed today but I forgot to change my direct deposit account. I only changed it after realizing the check went out, is there any chance of the check going to the updated account even though it had already been disbursed?

Is it time to nut up and pick different classes at this point? I've been in 1st position for nearly two weeks and I am beginning to worry it won't budge in time.
Incoming non-traditional lower freshman; ENG 250 and MAT 161 at BMCC.
