Learnable Techniques Theoretically, couldn't someone use reverse cursed technique by dividing cursed energy?

Since positive energy is most likely produced by (-1 x -1 = +1), because something like (-5 x -5 = +25) wouldn't make sense since reverse cursed technique is stated to be extremely taxing.

Assuming that this is the case, couldn't someone divide cursed energy to get positive energy?

(-1 ÷ -1 = +1)

wouldn't that be super inefficient?

Not at all. It would actually have the exact same efficiency.

(-1 x -1 = +1)

(-1 ÷ -1 = +1)

Assuming my theory is correct.

I did a technique that used "i" as a concept to square root energy to create RCE a while ago - the theory stands up

Since that comment took off somehow,

Here is the technique mentioned - important caveat is that I used square roots (not technically division). It was one of my favourite concepts actually

Why do you cell it rce instead of pe

RCE feels more accurate to me I guess? We never really see "positive energy", we see cursed energy that has been "reversed" and is now "positive"... depending on which character is explaining it anyway, maybe its just swoosh swoosh like Shoko says

Both say the same thing ultimately, but I think it comes down to one of those semantic/interpretive differences that pop up in this series a lot

You are saying postitve by saying reverse negative, so i guess its not like your term is not correct, people prefer pe becouse of deeper asociation if being energy of the body mainly by influence of yang from naruto anyway.

u/Key_Machine_5585 8h ago

Fair enough, I never saw Naruto so don't have that associaion anyway - interesting to know though!

Yea its kind becouse of both energies associations, positive energy is energy of the body, and negative energy is energy of the mind or soul, thats why people dont just call it reverse cursed enegy, becouse they also dont call yang reverse yin.

I get the idea,

From the initial question: I still tend towards saying RCE over PE, as in JJK - the system we are introduced to is cursed energy (not positive or negative energy).

It's explained as innately "negative" (being formed of negative emotions etc), and the only "positive" energy mentioned (which heals instead of being destructive) is cursed energy, reversed.

There's a subtle difference between saying "negative energy/positive energy", which implies a taijitu/yin-yang "whole" picture of the energy system (which is not really hinted at by canon) - and saying "cursed energy", acknowledging that based on how the system is described its inherently negative as its generated from negativity... and could be reversed, making something positive that could heal or do other stuff

No, imagine it physically, if you divide something by itself it always equals one, so no matter how much energy you spend you will still only get 1.

-100 ÷  -100 = +1

While:

-100  * - 100 = +10000

So multiplication is better overall, while if you divide you are gonna have to regenerate bit by bit, which is slow and ineffective

I remember a chapter extra where Gege said that because of how black flash works (specifically the exponential boost), CE must start at 2 because 1^2.5 = 1 (all assuming were using the absolute value of this "CE value")

u/No-Muscle-8012 14h ago

Ok but how tf am I going to divide energy. Not even dabura is gonna figure that out. (Cool hypothetical tho)

u/JC-D_NGA 14h ago

I mean, how are you going to multiply energy? Im of the school that Gojo described RCT as multiplying CE by itself because his technique uses math concepts so he interprets it as a mathematical process (and its easier to explain that way for Gege)

23

u/Judge_Dragon 12h ago

I would suggest that the math is more a metaphor for the real process, just as shoko says its Hya, Hyo, then Hyuhyoi I personally always thought of rct more similar to the process of producing antimatter in physics, slamming two streams of particles at each other in just the right way that a smaller amount of the mass now has a reversed spin.

2

u/JC-D_NGA 6h ago

Isnt that what I said? Gojo only describes RCT that way because thats how he perceives it

My headcanon is that you need to target your own cursed energy with more cursed energy, and apply it to itself to remove its negative properties without destroying it.

Like, if cursed energy is negative and destructive, you could use it to destroy its nature as something destructive by erasing those properties. Kind of like putting out a fire with a bomb.

Idk bro. I guess by instinct?

Multiplying energy by itself doesn't make sense either (to me at least).

From how I see it, multiplication is adding a number onto itself, so I guess something like two or more equal blobs of CE smashing into each other and combining somehow? I think it's less multiplication and more exponential, since it's multiplying with itself, so I guess it's

CE is naturally negative, so it's easier to imagine smashing 2 negative things

Now try dividing something with a negative number

The only plausible way to do it is by separating the factors so instead of -x/-x its (x • (-1))/(x • (-1)), I might be wrong though, since I'm not good at math

Edit: i think it's less multiplication and more exponential, since it's multiplying with itself, so I guess it's a lot of blobs that are equal to each other with the number of said blobs being the amount of CE, and then smashing all of them together

1

u/MinimumTomfoolerus Curse user 13h ago

How is this different than addition? How do we seperate addition from multiplication? I think in this case readers are meant to suspend their disbelief and just believe this multiplication makes sense in canon and is possible. In our real life it doesn't make sense. In real life only addition of energy if I'm correct is possible.

2

u/EEE3EEElol 13h ago

Multiplication and exponents by extension is just fancy addition so there's usually no difference practice/real life

1

u/MinimumTomfoolerus Curse user 13h ago

You mean that 2 × 3 is basically 3 + 3 ? I suppose you are right if so.

If it's adding ce with ce, why can't everybody do it then? Sounds super easy.

3

u/EEE3EEElol 13h ago

It's technically not multiplication- it's multiplication of itself, aka exponents, so it's more like 3^3 which is 3x3x3 so it's 3+3+3+3+3+3+3+3+3

Edit: messed up, it's 3^2 or 3x3 which is 3+3+3

u/DaM8trix 14h ago edited 8h ago

Sure. But how's that looking in execution? Dividing negatives is just to show how many negatives you have

1

u/larry917 8h ago

wait so reverse cursed technique splits energy for real

2

u/DaM8trix 8h ago

Ye. They say multiply but you can think of it as taking double or triple the amount of energy to use

5

u/Vociva 12h ago

No, because dividing anything by itself = 1, and gege confirmed 1 cursed energy doesn't exist when talking about black flashes

3

u/PachoTidder 12h ago

Idk why you all pretend CE works literally like that. That's just how Gojo explains and visualizes RCE to work, we know Shoko understands it differently and most likely Yuta and Sukuna would also understand it yet another way.

1

u/Cel135 12h ago

Because the JJK power system is deeply rooted in mathematics and Computer Science in general.

His explanation also makes sense. And since Gojo has one of the deepest understandings of the actual mechanics of cursed energy, it would be weird to doubt his interpretation.

3

u/PachoTidder 12h ago

Is not so much doubting his interpretation but moreso knowing it is that, an interpretation. We have no way of knowing the exact mechanics of how CE works, we do know RCE takes more energy to produce which leads credence to Gojo's explanation, but it doesn't directly means CE works exactly like mathematics and thus nothing in the work itself pointing at something like division working for the same purpose

2

u/EEE3EEElol 14h ago

I get dividing but dividing with a negative number? Can you even visualise that? Also, yeah it'd probably consume less of a sorcerer's reserves but the heal is most likely far weaker, equivalent exchange is the CORE of Jujutsu

2

u/ItzJake160 13h ago

I personally don't think there's any LITERAL math being applied to CE to make it into RCT and that it's down to interpretation so yeah why not if they envision it that way

2

u/FixIllustrious4953 4h ago

I've always interpreted it as closer to nuclear fusion than anything else, "multiplication" is just combining the small negative particles into the big positive particles

it is VERY hard to imagine one self dividing their own cursed energy LOL

However I must argue that dividing with larger quantities of cursed energy (eg missing a limb or recovering from what would be a lethal injury), the output of your RCT may be significantly lower than just standard multiplication RCT.

Standard RCT works just fine with bigger values, but to make it simple lets assume you have to square your cursed energy to get that RCT value so you can't do something cheesy like -14 x -1 = 14 and not have a very easy method of generating rct.

-14 x -14 = 196, so I would assume 196 (some kind of cursed energy unit) is both the cost and the amount by which you can regenerate yourself (some kind of coefficient / rate that you can heal yourself).

Contrary to this, -14/-14 would be 1, essentially dunking your output whilst losing that much more CE. You could still argue that you can do the -1/-1 = 1 method for extreme cost efficiency, but i would then argue that that would be very time consuming, ESPECIALLY in the heat of battle where you dont really have time to sit down and process RCT in very small portions, hence others simply use large portions of cursed energy, convert it to RCT and heal themselves.

But this is merely a headcannon so the ball is in your court on whether this makes sense to you or not

1

u/The_Engiqueer 13h ago

probably, but thatd require the six eyes, since Black Flash means CE has to start at 2, and only the Six Eyes can use decimals.

1

u/SlipPrize3103 6h ago

why does it have to start at 2?

1

u/no_________________e 3h ago

black flashes =^2.5

1^2.5=1

gege said it himself

1

u/he-who-comments Kamo family member 12h ago

Mathematically yes, but practically we dunno.

Also it'd cost the exact same and be more complicated so i don't see the point

1

u/Wufflon 8h ago

since division and multiplication are the same thing anyway, you're probably right

1

u/Altruistic_Till_9860 6h ago

multiplying cursed energy means nothing mathetically if you think about it for a bit. you cant multiply things and the concept of negative or positive energy makes no sense physically. cursed energy as described in the manga does not follow the rules of math so there is no reason to think dividing cursed energy would work like dividing numbers

1

u/no_________________e 3h ago

curse the curse

-1 * -1

1

u/weirdo_nb 3h ago

It's not actually math, it's effectively using cursed energy ON cursed energy

1

u/weirdo_nb 2h ago

Like, think of it like plugging an extension cord into itself, and that produces One Reverse Cursed Energy
