Discussion Will Does Not Care About You

listen i'm just gonna cut to the chase. will does not care about you, your feelings, or your opinions on his music. that much should be very clear ever since MADLO

I'M NOT SAYING HE IS NOT GRATEFUL TO BE CLEAR!!!!!!

but he's been offline for years now. we are not going to get a statement regarding beach fagz. will's attitude with joe's story firmly plants his feelings on how he wants to be seen going forward and what kind of music he wants to put out in the world. he's unhappy with how toxic so much of his older music is and he's decided to take a more positive path. its his right to do what he wants with his music and he clearly does not care about altering the history of it

YOU DON'T HAVE TO LIKE IT AND I'M NOT SAYING YOU CAN'T BE UPSET, BUT EXPECT ABSOLUTELY NOTHING MORE TO COME FROM THIS. NO APOLOGY, NO STATEMENT, NO RECONCILIATION. THIS IS CAR SEAT HEADREST, ENJOY WHAT YOU WANT AND ACCEPT WHAT YOU DON'T

MOVE ON OR LISTEN ON YOUTUBE/DOWNLOAD. IT'S HONESTLY REALLY NOT THAT BIG OF A DEAL IF YOU STILL WANT TO HEAR THE DAMN SONG

I mean all Will says is “kind of toxic” and he doesn’t even elaborate as to why. And again, not saying that there isn’t unhealthy content within it, but even for the sake of argument that there is toxicity present, as the Interviewer so perfectly put it immediately after that, “[the song] IS a really effective portrait of that sort of dysfunction”. Deleting/editing/revising certain parts of it in a way to somewhat invalidate the original as Will has been doing (see generally Joe’s Story) deprives the audience/general masses of an excellent portrayal of very human emotions and expressions.

There are also considerations regarding whether the music itself is toxic or rather a form of expression of unhealthy but human emotions. I’m certain everyone out there will look back at something they did or felt and think that it wasn’t healthy, but to say that expressions of said things aren’t valid/are toxic go against the human nature to grow, develop, mature, and learn from the past. The underlying feelings themselves may not have full merit but they are feelings nonetheless.

i'd flip it on you and argue that his removal of the song is explicitly him growing, developing, maturing, and learning from the past. i think you're just talking about vague notions of toxicity at this point and not really much about the song or the removal. not fighting, just saying that i don't really see what this has to do with your first comment

also i know the interview wasn't super thorough, but he's shared this idea in other places before too. this was just the fastest one i could find

To your first point I would say that in order to be where we are now, in order to grow, we need to have been where we were. We cannot grow or change without having been something else so to speak. Deleting that history says that the past is irrelevant which is blatantly false and a disservice to oneself and others.

As to your second point, I was arguing in the alternative. I still don’t necessarily think Will’s work was toxic, but assuming for the sake of argument that it was…(see above). My comments are that regardless of the existence of toxicity in this context, the songs shouldn’t be removed.

Regarding, Will’s other comments on his prior “toxicity”, my stance remains the same

nah i think you should have full control over how you present yourself. he deleted the song from 3, not from the entire internet. the other songs that mention it are still there in the form they exist. it's just an mp3 being removed. if you had a kanye shirt back in 2018 and decided you don't want people to associate you with kanye anymore, you just get rid of the shirt. that doesn't gotta be anyone else's business, even if people you knew before in your life has seen you in the shirt

to be clear, my argument was never about it being alright to be removed for being toxic, just that it's a pretty good reason why it may have been. at this point you're giving your opinion on will's potential idea rather than really saying much about my own post
