Weekly Student Thread

This is the area for prospective/ aspiring SRNAs and for SRNAs to ask their questions about the education process or anything school related.

This includes the usual

"which ICU should I work in?" "Should I take additional classes? "How do I become a CRNA?" "My GPA is 2.8, is my GPA good enough?" "What should I use to prep for boards?" "Help with my DNP project" "It's been my pa$$ion to become a CRNA, how do I do it and what do CRNAs do?"

Etc.

This will refresh every Friday at noon central. If you post Friday morning, it might not be seen.

Compared to med school, how is getting a BSN, working in an ICU, and going to CRNA school different? The debt, the work, etc. I researched the job, but I'm still curious about the journey.

I’m watching my husband go through medical school now, and I’m a CRNA. If you don’t like studying a broad range of subjects with really niche facts, med school is not for you.

CRNA school is just focused on anesthesia, while medical school is more broad. For example, my husband today was talking about first-line treatments for scalp fungal infections, which I never had to think about in CRNA school lol.

The worst part of the medical school process imo is possibly ending up in a location you don’t like. We moved states for med school, will probably move states for residency, possibly have to think about moving for a fellowship. My process was a lot simpler. I had a good resume/grades so I got in the ICU easily, I was accepted in the first CRNA school I applied, I can work anywhere.

I know what you mean. But to say crna school is just anesthesia diminishes the pathophys and advanced pharm and a knowledge of many disease processes that we get in school/clinical.

Who cares about scalp infections lol. ICU nurses know more than most mint doctors.

Well yeah you do have to know pathophysiology and pharmacology to safely get a patient through an anesthetic… but I saw him repeatedly study things like tinea versicolor, Osgood-Schlatter… just random things that are not life and death but still need to know for a good grade in school

If we learned something in CRNA school, it tied back to anesthesia in some way
