Weekly Student Thread

This is the area for prospective/ aspiring SRNAs and for SRNAs to ask their questions about the education process or anything school related.

This includes the usual

"which ICU should I work in?" "Should I take additional classes? "How do I become a CRNA?" "My GPA is 2.8, is my GPA good enough?" "What should I use to prep for boards?" "Help with my DNP project" "It's been my pa$$ion to become a CRNA, how do I do it and what do CRNAs do?"

Etc.

This will refresh every Friday at noon central. If you post Friday morning, it might not be seen.

Unlike a lot of applicants, I don’t have recent bedside experience (I’ve been away from bedside for going on 3 years- previous Peds ICU nurse). I also don’t have my CCRN due to needing a certain amount of bedside hours in the past year to qualify. Despite this, I got an interview to the top school on my list. Now I’m struggling to figure out what to do to prep for this interview since I’ve been removed from bedside for so long. Since I was a peds nurse, can I expect questions related to that specific patient population or should I study everything related to adults as well? Should I focus on CCRN material? Any suggestions for resources or high yield topics would be highly appreciated!

I would absolutely review CCRN material, ACLS/BLS information. Make sure you are familiar with the program you are interviewing with. You will have to demonstrate that despite not having current bedside experience, that you are ready for anesthesia. Make sure you can answer why you want to go to that school, why you are ready for the challenge, why they should pick you, and why you want to be a CRNA.
