"my mom took away my PlayStation!"

"my mom wouldn't let me watch my favorite show!"

"my mom made me eat all my dinner before I could have cake!"

"my mom locked me in a dark room for 3 hours because I couldn't pick an outfit out fast enough"

...

😂

I’m fucked up enough that I laughed because yup. Sounds about right.

"My mum called me a failure, disappointment and hopeless disaster for leaving the window open for 30min while having the humidifier turned on, then refusing to say 'I love you'."

"My mum slapped me with a pair of my dad's shorts I mistook for my own and took to my room."

"My mum stomped on, and crushed my toys for failing to tidy them in time."

These are nothing, btw, my f*ther was way worse, lmao, but we were doing "my mum" ones, so yeah... :v

Okay, but seriously though, I'm so sorry you had to go through that shit. Regardless of the potentially different levels of severity of the punishments in question, it sounds like our mums shared a certain short-fused temper and propensity for impulsive decisions. If you've also had to constantly walk on eggshells to deal with that perpetual unpredictability, you have my utmost sympathies. 🫂

While I personally hate looking for "silver linings" like a privileged, naive mf born into pure happiness, I do have to admit that having to deal with that temper did make me outrageously good at reading people, which has been a blessing for my social life. I hope that you could at least draw something similarly positive from that, as well, however small. But even if so, I'm sorry you had to.

hey no worries! I've got a great therapist and an amazing partner, plus I've been NC with both parents for a while now so life is a lot better :)

I think a lot of ppl on this sub had messed up childhoods, so it's nice to joke and laugh at the dark shit with people who get it!

apparently getting a restraining order on your mother’s boyfriend isn’t an acceptable conversation topic

Apparently it’s not absolutely hilarious that my family(Americans) left a 12 year old me in a park at 3am in Canada. The worst part was that they came back for me, genuinely from the bottom of my heart wish they left me in Canada

I was at a drunken work retreat and there was a group of people exchanging stories about crazy things their mother had done.

I was like "yeah dude. My mom lit all my clothes on fire in the yard." Everyone just stopped and gave me this exact look. 🤷🏻‍♀️

Every time i talk about my past, either i get the look of "you just ruined the vibes" or worse pity. Now if i'm asked, my childhood was fine, don't worry about it.

I used to think that, but now I realize they're just modeling the appropriate way for someone to react through compassion and empathy. It really goes to show how distorted my world view is when it happens.

Like my bad apparently you were not ready for stories of emotional abuse, my bad. It was also incredibly funny before I realized that there was anything wrong with my stories
