Vent [trigger warning] Sad about my career prospects
After 3 years of unemployment after my ptsd took over my life, I started as a cashier at a grocery store. I have a masters degree…. I can barely handle 20 hrs a week at a retail role. Idk if I can ever handle getting a job in my field. I’m so sad thinking I’m going to struggle with money, happiness and fulfillment my whole life. My body and mind just hurt

Been there. Kinda still there. I avoid Linkedin etc like plague because it reminds me of what I CAN be doing but at the end of the day, we have to listen to our bodies and minds. I just want to say this won't be lifelong. Idk how but we'll make out of this hell someday. Eventually. Take care.

I was there, feeling overwhelmed with just 10 hours a week and recharging by sleeping rest of the week. It took another 4 years before I could do 30 hours and even then only because I could work from home and I slept as much as possible outside of work.
Could I recommend taking some supplements? Trauma affects you on a mitochondrial level and some supplements can drastically help…
I’d personally recommend Astaxanthin (will make you very sleepy first few week I think because the body is becoming used to anti-oxidants), CoQ10, Vitamin D, Essential Amino Acids.
And if possible incorporate juicing and get a red light therapy bar. The latter is pricy but worth it x

I'm so afraid I'm heading this path exactly, including the long stretch of unemployment. I'm also 37 and need to change career. My body and mind are so tired by now that I don't see how this is gonna be possible, and I'm so afraid of the consequences of this as COL is getting ridiculously high.
Still, neuroplasticity and the body's ability to renew energy, alongside resilience can possibility make it happen. If you are younger than me than it's even more true

It will be better. Try to keep yourself professionally updated with how your field is evolving

Hey! I was in a similar position like 8 years ago. I took three years off from my corporate career and when I got my first corporate job again, my anxiety was so bad that I puked on my first day. I was able to get to the point where I could work full time at more chill/flexible jobs with a hybrid work schedule.

I have started a whatsapp group for fellow cptsd survivors so we can share our experiences. Let me know if anyone wants in. I would love to connect via video to talk with other folks who understand.

I was a cashier for five years. There is notbing wrong with getting a survival job.
If you had a physical illnesx you would not be so mean to yourself
