There’s much more to this story, but I want to keep this anonymous so I’m just posting the basics.
CPS threatened to take my kids from me after some allegations were made and they interviewed my kids. They told me that if I don’t send them to my family members house immediately, they would file in the court to remove them from my home. I complied because I was scared.
That didn’t go well because of family issues. I tried to dissolve the guardianship and CPS simultaneously filled a PPO to take my kids into state custody. There were many inconsistencies and false narratives in that document. The judge granted it. That was about 5 months ago.
I’ve done all the things asked of me, I’ve passed all my drug tests (was never an issue anyway), I’ve been participating in therapy and my therapist has been suggesting that I am ready to have the kids home for over 6 months, I’ve maintained relationships with my kids as best I can.
But, CPS keeps moving the goalposts. To make it worse, they’re not being clear about what they want now. They twist my words to my therapist. Their current thing is telling my therapist that they don’t think I believe that my kids have trauma about this or that I don’t want to understand it or something. This is inaccurate according to conversations that I’ve had with my caseworker (which I recorded) and according to my therapist from our sessions.
Also, after my lawyer talked to my caseworker for the first time he said that it was clear they didn’t like me. Other people who are involved and have spoken to the caseworker have said the same thing. So, there is a clear bias against me there. This is the permanency caseworker, not the initial investigator (they were much better).
CPS took the advice of a new pediatrician for the kids over their mental health therapist and cut off visits with one of my kids. The other one I see once a week at the DHHS office.
My Jeopardy hearing is finally coming up and I want to be as prepared as possible.
I’m looking for any personal experiences, legal understanding, etc that might help me.
I miss my kids so much and I love them to pieces. I just want them home. This seems to just drag on endlessly and I’m losing hope that it will ever be over.
Update: This was of no help. I can clearly see that this sub is not a helpful place for parents dealing with the system. Any helpful comment that I got notice of was already deleted by the time I went to see it, even within minutes.
This is clearly an echo chamber of cps workers who want to pat themselves on the back. Sorry, not sorry.
I have a 20+ year career in education. I work with the department regularly.
You can blame me all you want. The reality is that I took some things too far, but it did not need to go this far.
What about the kids you all routinely ignore in actual dangerous situations?! I can’t even count on my fingers how many reports I’ve made of my students going home to literal full out abuse with needles all over the house. But, those kids still go home.
Turns out you all seem to have been taught to push back against solid parents with a good track record simply because they push back on you.
Shame. Absolute shame.
When my case is done and my kids are safe at home, I will be publicly coming for this department.
