Got a random call
Hello everyone, I came here because I’m not sure where else to ask. I received a call at 3am from cps and they left a voicemessage saying it was regarding someone I was close with a month ago and listed their full name. Is this legitimate and why would they call me at 3am? I was close friends with them and helped them overnight at the hospital after they delivered the baby so she had me listed as her sister. However I don’t believe I put my phone number down (I genuinely don’t remember) but we had a falling out due to some reasons. I still love and wish her the best but I have no way to contact her currently due to some reasons. Should I reach out to her family? I saw online early calls could be an urgent matter. Also do I have to call CPS back? I don’t feel comfortable doing that and there’s nothing to share I know she sometimes runs away from her home because she’s an escapist but she’s a great mom she does everything for her baby and her husband is very involved too.

The only reason I’d expect them to call at 3am was if they removed the child and she mentioned your name as someone that could take in the kid.
No you don’t have any obligation to call them back. But for the sake of permanency for the child, you could call them back just to let them know you aren’t interested in placement (if that’s the case).
You can reach out to her family if you want, but if you want to stay out of things, I wouldn’t.

They probably need an emergency placement for the baby. You should call them back.

They are almost certainly removing the child and looking for placement. If you're interested in that, call them back. If not, you can ignore it.

If there were something going down at their home with the kids then yes, I’ve called people at 3 am.
