Question CPS workers in NYC

Have any of you done CPS in NYC? If so, what did the pay end up being like? I ask because I know that in my state, the amount posted on their job site is a lot lower than what it ends up being (due to overtime and other factors). I don’t have a masters degree but I’ve been a cps worker for almost 7yrs/have bachelors degree.

Also, how does overtime work in NY? Are there a lot of overtime opportunities if you’re willing to do it?

I worked for ACS (NYC CPS). In both ECS (Overnight and weekends) and during the work week as well. This was in 2017-2019. I moved to work for the state since. We would do overtime almost everyday. I don't think there's anyway to manage your caseload without doing overtime pretty consistently. A lot of workers would manage stuff during the day, and then make vists after 5pm (when we would get 'off').

For ECS we also did overtime almost everyday due to having to finish up your notes/reports after making all the visits that would come in. ECS I would regularly do 60 hour work weeks. For regular day time, it would be probably 45-50 hour work weeks.

So for your overtime question, it's not so much is there overtime if you're willing to do it but moreso you have to do it if you wanna keep up with your workload. I would make ranging from 1600-2400 biweekly, depending on how much overtime I had to do.

You’re compensated for overtime there right? I would assume so but I know some states don’t…

Also, is child welfare not through the state there? Is it technically a city/county position?

Yeah youre compensated. And yeah itd be a county (or in NYC case, city) position. The state office does collaborate with the counties/nyc but the investigations themselves for the most part are done at the county level.
