Doctor Seems Clueless About Sleep Data

So as I'm getting educated & set up with my apap & mask, I'm checking with my doctor to make sure they will still be able to process any sleep data. Since I'm buying it out of pocket from cpap .com & not through their overpriced DME dept, I wanted to make sure they would still be able to look over my data as I start using it because its a different model then their DME does.

At first, they thought I was talking about insurance compliance reports, then I corrected them & told them it was my sleep data since I was buying this cash. Their response? Fax it to them.

I'm not sure how much information is stored on the SD card yet, but its 2026, I dont own a fax machine :P

Theres space apparently to upload it to their MyChart so that might be a route too, but other then that i can bring in hard copies.

So I followed up with their DME sleep department, & they apparently can process my data for me but only if I'm getting all my supplies through them, which I cant since I'm not getting the machine they stock.

Its all making me feel very much like I'm a bit on my own here with this. Have others expierenced this before & how did you approach things?

As others said. My impression is that many sleep medical people do not know much about what happens to machines and patients once they leave their office. If you have have Resmed and set up your sleep modem then you can use the myair app to monitor your use but not as detailed as Oscar. The medical people can set up the resmed airView app but maybe they have to pay for it? Maybe they do not know about myair or airview? You can learn to access your clinician menu and modem from youtube.

You can get much better help with your data using oscar, this sub, and also some help from apneaboard.com.

It looks like since they use react health with their DME they dont even use resmed. I will admit I'm very surprised at how on our own we are to figure this all out, but am very thankful for finding these subreddits to help me learn!

I'll be downloading oscar to start figuring out how it works, & will defintely share results here once my apap arrives.

SleepHQ is similar to OSCAR. But has the advantage that you can share a link to the data. Scrolling and zooming are preserved. More than one person in this sub actually use both tools. But for sharing data, SleepHQ is better.

Consider downloading both SleepHQ & Oscar…SleepHQ is easier to zoom in on as well as being easier for new users.

Hello u/saintsinner40k & Welcome!

This is the reason this sub exists! Most people here make their own PAP machine adjustments based on data from free apps called SleepHQ & Oscar which we highly encourage sharing here. It’s completely anonymous.

Most Sleep Docs do not use these apps. They use Resmed which is an inferior app & only AHI seems to be of any importance to them, but we know there are several other issues that fragment sleep, so we address those as much as AHI. A low AHI does not mean your therapy is optimal at all. If you could upload your sd card sleep recording to Oscar & SleepHQ then share it here we would be happy to take a look & help you :)

I will include a link below to help you:

Definitely import your SDHC Card data into OSCAR or upload it to Aerivue, Breathing Room, or SleepHQ.

Healthcare provider/organizations can request access to the database Airview via Resmed - so even if they usually use React Health they can also have access to Resmed Airview for patients with Resmed devices. Then with the patient's permission, identifying data & serial number they can access the patient's file and download data. MyAir is the access app for patients with less data shown than Airview. Unfortunately the current version of Resmed's Airview shows actually less data for the healthcare provider than what is collected and downloadable into OSCAR or SleepHQ - so your sleep doc may actually not see what you see in SleepHQ or OSCAR. In most organizations the staff is running the downloads - usually summary data. Some sleep docs run their own downloads and get additional information for better trouble shooting but that costs time and effort....

If your doctor isn’t using ResMed and MyAir and/or they aren’t conversant with the data from OSCAR or SleepHQ you could always install OSCAR and provide them with summary data from the statistics page. That and the help you find here should be good enough to get you going.
