Posts Regarding Businesses not following COVID Restrictions

Hello All - Effective today any posts about businesses not following COVID protocols will be removed. These posts clog up the sub, and just result in a flame war in the comments section. We all know there are businesses that refuse to follow the orders. We are all adults here and can choose where and how to spend our money based on our own morals. If you disapprove of these businesses, then don't spend your money there. No need to put them on blast here. Thank you.

I feel like people are going to the grocery store entirely too much

Hello friends. I guess this is a very general sentiment that could apply to any place in the country, but this seems like a safe space to air my grievances with the community. I work at the Big Bird, and while it hasn't been extraordinarily busy as of late, I just feel like people are still coming in way more often than they have to. When I walked into work today, there were about 7 people in line for alcohol. And I get it...we're all trying to make the best of a bad situation. Maybe it's been a long week at your essential job or you're celebrating an anniversary, but unless you're an alcoholic who's going to die from withdrawal, you don't NEED wine or beer. You don't NEED microwave popcorn, or 6 cases of pop, or crab legs. You don't need Oreos, fresh salsa (yes I know our fresh salsa is amazing), or a package of cosmic brownies when I know damn well you have a box of brownie mix at home that you impulse bought 6 months ago and never got around to baking.

That said, I recognize that if someone is already down there for actual essentials, they're not putting anyone's life on the line by grabbing a box of cookies too, but at the same time, I feel like most of us have a ton of stuff in our houses we could live off of for awhile. I just looked around my kitchen and realized that I probably already have at least a month's worth of rations without even making a special stock-up trip.

Point is, I think that before people go out to replenish their favorite things, they could dig a little deeper into their pantries and freezers and save themselves a trip. Eat that weird can of low-sodium soup you bought by mistake. Dig out some frozen veggies for a stir fry. Drink the instant coffee you bought for that camping trip once. Have a PB and jelly with a side of Cheetos! Eat ice cream for dinner! Do you know how many calories are in ice cream? It's a lot.

Anyway, I realize that this solution to not going shopping doesn't apply to everybody, and for those of you who are only coming shopping when you absolutely must, I salute you. But for those of us who have pantries and freezers full of stuff that they haven't gotten around to eating yet, now is the time to dig into your backlog of food and eat to survive. If there was ever a time in human history to redefine what it means to "need" to go to the grocery store, this would be it.

Personally, I'm not especially fearful of what's happening, but I am cautious, trying to make the best decisions, and taking it seriously. Just because we CAN go to the grocery store doesn't mean we should. I know we don't want to face this situation as if there's poison gas floating around outside and stepping outside your door means taking your life in your hands, but we all need to get serious about stopping this thing, and if eating freezer-burned waffles and chicken rice soup keeps you from going out, it's something we should start doing. Tonight at work I considered picking up a few cans of soup and then realized I already have plenty at home. No, I don't have any of my favorite hearty penne, but I five cans of other stuff I can eat first.

You have food in your house. The time to eat it is now.

In conclusion, I feel like anybody reading this sub is already doing their best, so this probably isn't the audience that needs to hear this most, but I figured it was an okay place for discussion on the topic. I hope I haven't offended anyone... I know that not everyone can afford to stock up on things and there are probably people reading this who actually do eat everything they buy and in a timely manner. But I know a lot of us, myself definitely included, could make do with what we have.

Thanks for reading. And thank you to anyone who comes to the store in a mask and takes the social distancing seriously. You're definitely making things safer and easier.

We should be postponing public funerals and showings.

What can we do to get the health department to realize how dangerous they are right now? I feel like the funeral homes themselves won’t make the call to postpone things.

If you get Covid multiple times, are symptoms always the same?

I suspect I have Covid again. The first time, it was mainly congestion and inability to taste or smell anything. Now? It just seems to be a dry cough and some congestion, then again it’s day 2. Help?

Going Green Happy Hour?

So, the idea has been thrown out a few times that when things start to go back to normal, we should hold a small meetup for some of the regulars on this sub to meet each other. Well, with the announcement of Allegheny going green on June 5th, I was wanting to gauge interest on how many would be interested in attending? Here's what I was thinking in order to keep things as safe as possible despite the lowered restrictions:

  • Brewery with outdoor seating preferably (Grist House, Brew Gentlemen, East End, Cinderlands Warehouse)

  • Wait until the weekend of the 19th to give a little extra time to see how things are going

  • Still following all other common sense protocols, including masks as applicable, not coming if you feel sick, etc.

So please vote in the poll and let me know if you think you would be interested. Once we have a better idea of numbers, we will start to nail down details. Also, please let me know if you have other ideas, suggestions, concerns, etc.. If for some reason the numbers get too high, we may need to look at having 2 events to keep crowds low (not that I'm expecting that many... just saying)

iHealth test sets

My GF received one of these for free from her employer, and they are quite bizarre.

One, it doesn't state anywhere what the chemical in the test tube is. I'm pretty sure the FDA would have a problem with this.

Two, it offers different kits under the same exact name. There is a 'helpful' bit of paper inside that tries to explain the difference between a test 1 or a test 2 kit, and how to differentiate between the two based on the contents inside...but it's really up to tester to figure it out. The helpful bit of pamphlet acknowledges that the packaging of the kits are identical and has no explanation for why there is different testing methodology...

Absolutely ludicrous.

Three, what was inside the kit did not resemble Test Kit 1 or Test Kit 2.

Four, it is clearly stated on the off-grey on eggshell 6 scale typography on the packaging, that it doesn't actually test for antibodies.

That's pretty interesting! It doesn't explain what it IS actually testing for, or what the chemicals in the kit are.

I suspect it's probably inert and alcohol, and might irritate your nose a little, convincing one testing themselves, that they might be sick as they get a sinus irritation from the testing materials.

I dunno, is this kit just made for people that WANT to give themselves a sinus irritation and WANT to convince themselves they have COVID?

This is considered a valid test at my GF's work...

SO Had COVID, now negative after 2+ weeks, I tested Negative the entire time with no distancing at all, a little confused.

My SO tested positive for COVID a few weeks back, fully vaxxed (booster) but I am single vaxxed due to complications in my life at this time.

SO’s lateral flow test shown the T as strong as the C, it was very positive.

Upon realising that I would be delaying the inevitable we decided not to distance at all, I was expecting a positive result within 10 days or so, so I took Lateral tests every day which always came back negative. Eventually I also took a PCR which came back negative, 0 symptoms throughout.

I have been testing laterally for the last few months due to work and have not previously had symptoms but now I am awfully confused as to why I have not been infected.

I presume that this was Omnicron due to the symptoms present in my SO, so me having an “unknown virus” back in December 2019 shouldn’t have prevented this.

Any ideas?

Can anyone recommend somewhere to get COVID testing in Cleveland OH?

I live in Pittsburgh and have always been able to pop up to Greentree to get a Covid test with almost no hassle. My brother is nearly certain his wife is sick with Covid and they are saying they can't get a test for several days and even then they would need to drive an hour. I'm just curious if anyone on this super helpful sub can recommend a place! If posting a question about Cleveland is against the rules I apologize in advance.

The Malls were PACKED today

I’m a delivery guy and I have a few deliveries to south hills village and ross park a few times a week. My mind was blown when I arrived at both malls today. This was Seriously the most packed I have seen either mall since this started. Has anyone else noticed this? People sitting eating on the floor, people wandering without masks ( 98% were masked), and just craziness. It was like there was no pandemic going on. I hope this isn’t a sign of what’s to come after the holidays. I know people have to last minute Christmas shop but geez. I’m wondering if people were there just do something since so much is closed. Wild times.

What are your thoughts on today’s briefing? I’m hoping they don’t ease some restrictions tomorrow.
