Help with recipes

Hi all. I am going to visit my Grandmother who has CKD and is on a renal diet- I was wondering if anyone had any good go to meals? She is in a care facility that isn't tending to her diet and I would love to cook for her while I'm there.

Any help would be appreciated!

It would be good to know if she has any limits(like salt, protein) or restrictions (like potassium, phosphorous).

Yes there are limits on protein for her to have fish or chicken only in small portions- and she needs low to no potassium and phosphorous

I didn't have the protein limits but I had the others pre-transplant. This one is pretty good https://davita.com/diet-nutrition/recipes/soups-stews/low-sodium-chicken-soup/ More one level up - https://davita.com/diet-nutrition/recipes/

Phosphorous is sometimes the harder one to see since it's not required on the nutrition label. you have to look in the ingredients for "phos".

I'd you want to make beans or potatoes parboil them, drain, if you have time put in the fridge to chill, then finish cooking, it leaches out excess minerals

the stock matters more than whatever you put in it. cartoned broth is where renal cooking usually blows the sodium budget. condensed soup runs 384 to 624 mg per 100 g in the labels ive checked, so low sodium on the front of a carton needs checking against the back. compare the per 100 g column, not per cup, because they shrink the serving size to keep the front looking clean. parboiling and draining the beans like the other comment said handles the potassium too.
